Gifts that Give Back

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Did you catch our segment on KSBI about gifts that give back this holiday season?  Here are a few of the incredible items we discussed—a great way to finish your holiday shopping and help others at the same time!

KUTOA (kutoa.com)
In Swahili the word ku-toa means “to give”.  That’s the very basic yet very powerful concept that KUTOA is based on.  For every KUTOA health bar purchased, KUTOA donates, through a partnernship with the World Food Program, a nutrition pack to a child suffering from malnutrition, providing them with the vitamins, minerals and micronutrients.  The KUTOA bars are 100% natural and are made with only the best natural ingredients including organic oats, fresh fruit and nuts.  They contain no preservatives, additives or artificial ingredients. The bars currently come in three scrumptious flavors: cherry cashew, raisin peanut and blueberry almond.

Smiles for the People (smilesforthepeople.com)
Smiles for the People’s Original Adult Brush is a premium adult toothbrush made from 100% biodegradable bamboo. The brush has an ergonomically curved design that makes it comfortable and beautiful. Here’s the best part though: for every toothbrush you buy, Smiles for the People gives the cash equivalent of ONE toothbrush to one of their partner dental charities.  Our donations enable our giving partners to design locally appropriate interventions for their communities’ unique local needs. Because of the wide range of needs in the oral health field, and because toothbrushes can sometimes cause more harm than good for people in need of care, this strategy is more responsible than donating physical brushes.

WINK Bags (winkbags.com)
WINK (When In Need of Kindness) sells stylish toiletry bags with luxury products from Soap & Paper Company inside. When you buy a WINK bag, one bag (filled with important travel-size basic toiletries) is donated to Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms across the U.S. so family members staying with their critically ill children don’t have to worry about these necessities.  Further, a portion of the proceeds will also go to WINK's non-profit partner, The C.L.A.Y. Foundation, which advocates for CPR training, swim instruction, AED availability and a year round warm water swim facility. Your original WINK bag will have our custom all natural WINK lip balm, a 4 oz. shea butter soap and corresponding solid. It’s the perfect size for your phone, license, credit card and lip gloss and made from Dacron, the fabric most commonly used for the sails on sail boats. The fabric is durable, water resistant and wipes off easily.

You and Who (youandwho.com)
You and Who markets original design t-shirts and for every one sold, a matching shirt is donated to someone in need in the city of the artist who designed the shirt through local charity partners. Through this model, You and Who is not only helping those in need, but also the very artists who design the one for one t-shirts, providing exposure for their work (each artist that works with You and Who has their own biography on the website) and paying them $1 from the sale of each of their one for one t-shirt designs that is sold.  All of the one for one t-shirts from You and Who are unique fashion statements, featuring colorful one-of-a-kind prints and designs that are sure to help you stand out from the crowd.
