Labor Day Weekend signifies a time to honor all who “labor” with a day off, but to many, it also marks the end of summer. Either way, it’s worth celebrating with a lot of family fun!

Find a list below of fun activities to enjoy during Labor Day weekend and other links to MetroFamily resources that will help you plan a great time together.

Community events during Labor Day weekend

Aug. 28-Sept. 2

Payne County Free Fair at the Payne County Expo Center (4518 Expo Circle E, Stillwater) features livestock shows, a wide variety of agricultural exhibits and more. See website for schedule.

Aug. 29-Sept. 3

OKC Dodgers vs Round Rock at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark (2 Mickey Mantle Dr). Prices vary. Tuesday-Saturday at 7:05 p.m.; Sunday, 2:05 p.m.

Aug. 31

FREE STEM Night at the Museum at Oklahoma History Center (800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr) explores the wonders of learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with a focus on the history of STEM in Oklahoma, the STEM industry today and how to get involved. 4-6 p.m.

FREE Rock the Route in Downtown Yukon (Main St between 4th & 5th St, Yukon) features live music, food trucks and family-friendly activities. Free to attend but some activities are pay-to-play and prices vary. 6-11 p.m.

Sept. 1

Makers at the Market at the Paseo Arts District (3024 Paseo) features local artists and creatives selling art, plants, handmade goods, books, vintage, jewelry and more. Free to attend. 5-9 p.m.

FREE First Friday Gallery Walk at the Paseo Arts District (3024 Paseo) features special themed exhibits, guest artists and a variety of live entertainment – all within walking distance. 6-9 p.m.

FREE LIVE @ Legacy Park Concert at Legacy Park (1898 Legacy Dr, Norman) features a family-friendly outdoor concert with live music from Beau Jennings & The Tigers and Kyle Reid and The Low Swingin’ Chariots. 7-10 p.m.

Sept. 2

FREE Fishing Days at OKC Lakes & Ponds (various locations). The City of Oklahoma City offers FREE fishing on the first Saturday of each month. No city permit is required, however, a State license is for anyone 16 and older. Regular fishing regulations apply

Kids Take Over The Cowboy at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum (1700 NE 63rd St). Create musical crafts and enjoy musical performances and dance from local cultural groups representing countries of origin from all over the Americas. Free with admission. 10 a.m. – noon, while supplies last.

Red Brick Nights Street Festival in Downtown Guthrie (2nd & Harrison Ave, Guthrie) features rotating pop-up shops, food trucks, live music and kids activities. Free to attend. 5-11 p.m.

Summer Music Series at RIVERSPORT OKC (800 Riversport Dr) features live music from local artists. 3-6 p.m.

FREE Game Night at the MAC at Mitch Park (2733 Marilyn Williams Dr, Edmond) features an evening of fun with board games, snacks and a raffle. 6-10 p.m.

Park After Dark at Martin Park Nature Center (5000 W Memorial Rd) features a guided hike to discover the creatures that come out to play when the sun goes down. Preregister. $5. 8:30-9:30 p.m.

Sept. 3

FREE Marvelous Music from the Movies Concert at Scissortail Park (415 S Robinson Ave) features a free Labor Day weekend concert for the entire family. Joining the OKCPHIL is one of Oklahoma’s favorite sons, singer/songwriter Graham Colton. 8:30 p.m.

Sept. 4

FREE Labor Day Celebration in Henryetta (Main Street, Henryetta) features a parade, games for all ages, concerts, a carnival, rodeo and an impressive fireworks display at dusk as well as a car, bike & tractor show. 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Museum Exhibits in the OKC metro:

Bulldog Spirit!: Edmond’s First High School   at Edmond Historical Society & Museum

The exhibit covers the history of the school, dating back to 1917 when it began with a few 10th-grade students to its growth as the current-day Edmond Memorial High School. Artifact highlights include an EHS letter jacket and cheer uniform, a bulldog mascot head and megaphone, spirit pins and graduation items, plus a wealth of photographs.

Yellowstone in Color: Thomas Moran and Louis Prang Print the West  at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art

Through prints, painting, photography, and graphics, the exhibition explores Moran’s imagery of the American West and the printing firm that made his views iconic. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience a working print studio as part of the exhibit.

W I D E W E S T at National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

The exhibition offers an opportunity to explore the worlds captured in panoramic photographs, from traveling wild west show caravans and rodeo arenas to graduating classes and growing cities. Additionally, W I D E W E S T gives a look behind-the-scenes at the Museum, showcasing the efforts of the Dickinson Research Center to preserve these special photographs for future generations.

American Farmer  at National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

When photographer Paul Mobley set out to capture the soul of our country’s farm communities, he encountered an enduring rural culture that remains rooted in the principles of tradition, family, integrity, and hard work. Crisscrossing the country, from Alaska to Florida, Mobley and his camera were welcomed time and time again into the homes of hundreds of farm families.

True Nature: Rodin and the Age of Impressionism at Oklahoma City Museum of Art

The exhibition seeks to reframe French artist Auguste Rodin (1840–1917). Approximately 100 objects will be on view, including rarely seen 19th-century European sculptures and paintings created by Impressionist painters and sculptors with whom Rodin worked and exhibited throughout his career. Notable artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, and Paul Cézanne are featured in this exhibition.

Edith Head: The Golden Age of Hollywood Costume Design at Oklahoma City Museum of Art

This exciting retrospective of award-winning costume designer Edith Head will feature over 70 costumes that span the six decades of Head’s career and were worn by stars such as Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, Shirley MacLaine, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Kim Novak.

Patterns of Knowing at Oklahoma Contemporary

Patterns of Knowing features works by three artists — Jordan Ann Craig, Benjamin Harjo Jr. and Jeri Redcorn — exploring how patterns sourced from Indigenous cultures embody a lineage of ideas. Through ceramics, paintings, prints and drawings, Patterns of Knowing highlights artworks in which rhythmic, repeated arrangements of shapes, colors and symbols carry knowledge across generations.

Eva Schlegel: Multiple Voices at Oklahoma Contemporary

Multiple Voices is the first public artwork in the United States by Eva Schlegel, the Austria-born and -based artist known for engineering steel and mirrors into spectacular, architectonic sculptures. The pivotal text elements in Multiple Voices refer to America and specifically Oklahoma.

Watch Out for Flying Chairs: Professional Wrestling in Oklahoma at Oklahoma History Center

The exhibit examines professional wrestling in Oklahoma from its emergence in traveling carnivals to today. Oklahoma has been at the forefront of professional wrestling through its continued popularity across communities and the contributions of Oklahomans in and out of the squared circle.
