When Lindsey Jones and the founding team of Way Christian Academy started dreaming about a new kind of school, their vision wasn’t about reinventing education — it was about building a community where students could thrive in every part of their development: academically, personally and spiritually.
“We wanted to create a place where learning felt meaningful and where kids could grow into who they’re meant to be,” said Jones, who now serves as board chairman. “It’s about nurturing the whole child.”
Today, that dream is a growing reality. The Christian private school, located at 1801 S. Kelley Ave. in Edmond, is set apart by small class sizes, project-based learning and a strong commitment to faith-based education — all while remaining an affordable option for many families. The school currently serves students from 1st – 6th grade.
A thoughtful approach to learning
At Way Christian Academy, the school day is intentionally structured to give students time to absorb and apply what they’re learning. Using a block-style schedule, students focus on core subjects like English and math on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and then shift to subjects like social studies and science on Tuesday and Thursday.
Built-in “academic hours” during the school day allow most students to complete assignments at school, minimizing the need for homework and saving space for family time at home.
“It’s about creating a rhythm where students can really understand the material,” Jones explained. “We give them the time they need to dig deeper into their learning, rather than feeling rushed.”
Way’s project-based learning model brings lessons to life. Instead of just reading about ancient civilizations, for example, students design and build working models of ancient water systems. In language arts, grammar lessons are connected to hands-on projects like designing country flags and writing descriptive paragraphs using new skills. Even math comes to life as students apply fractions to a freshly baked pie.
“When students can connect their learning to real life, they enjoy it more and they retain it longer,” Jones said.
Strong academics, personal support
Way Christian Academy is proud to offer an academically strong environment. All the teachers are certified, and the majority hold master’s degrees. The small class sizes — capped at 10 to 12 students per room — allow for individual attention, creative teaching methods and a true sense of community.
“We’re blessed with a team of teachers who are not only highly qualified but who truly share the heart of our mission,” said Jones. “They’re passionate about seeing students succeed academically and personally.”
Families have noticed the difference. The Schoeffler family shared, “Way Christian Academy has been a great fit for our kids. The teachers truly invest in each child. Our kids love the project-based learning, daily Bible time, and Friday cooking class. The small class sizes and overall culture of the school have been an answer to prayers.”
Beyond academics, the school invests deeply in students’ personal and spiritual growth. Every day includes time for Bible study and character development. Students are encouraged to think critically, handle real-life situations thoughtfully and grow in their faith. As Principal Jarod Walker put it, “the good news of the gospel is the foundation of all we do.”
Making private education accessible
Way Christian Academy also places a strong emphasis on affordability. Tuition is $8,500 per year, and many families take advantage of state programs like the Parent Tax Choice credit or the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship, which can significantly reduce the out-of-pocket cost — in some cases to as little as $100 to $150 per month.
Additionally, because the school is accredited, it is eligible for Title I funding, allowing students who need extra services like reading intervention or speech therapy to receive that support.
“We want families to know that this kind of education is within reach,” Jones said. “It’s important to us that finances aren’t a barrier to a great education and a nurturing environment.”
A growing, close-knit community
Way Christian Academy is still growing — this year, 16 students are enrolled, and nearly 30 are already signed up for next year. There are just a few spots left, especially in the upper grades. Though growth is exciting, Jones says keeping the personal, community feel is a top priority.
“Growth allows us to serve more families, but we’re committed to staying small enough that every child is known and valued,” Jones said.
