The SpongeBob Musical at The Pollard Theatre is an absolute joy from beginning to end, offering an unforgettable night of theater for the whole family. This show is full of humor and touching moments. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of SpongeBob or just looking for a family-friendly show, this musical is a delight.
The plot centers around the lovable SpongeBob and his friends, who must come together to save their town from an impending volcanic eruption. What comes after is a timeless story of friendship and optimism.
It surprised me to discover that the songs were written by a whole range of chart-topping musicians. From The Flaming Lips to Steven Tyler and Sara Bareilles to Panic! At The Disco, the songs were high energy with catchy tunes.
Visually, the production is nothing short of stunning. The set designs and costumes bring Bikini Bottom to life in a way that feels like I was stepping right into the cartoon itself. Every corner of the stage pops with vibrant colors, clever details and whimsical touches that really immerse you in the world of SpongeBob. To my eye, the quality matched that of every Broadway production I’ve ever seen.
The cast’s energy is absolutely contagious, and their commitment to nonstop fun shines through in every scene. From SpongeBob’s earnest optimism to Sandy’s warmth and resourcefulness, they make you root for their success the whole way through!
And then there’s Squidward, who is such a delightful grump. And his song “I’m Not a Loser” was easily one of the show’s highlights for me. By the end he is tap dancing with all four of his tentacles, plus all the chorus members create an outstanding kickline. It was an absolute showstopper.
Whether you’re a SpongeBob enthusiast or know almost nothing about the cartoon (that was me!), the SpongeBob musical at The Pollard Theatre is guaranteed to leave you grinning. It’s a celebration of joy, optimism and the importance of friendship — so get ready to dive in for a night you won’t forget!
The production runs through April 5 and I would reccommend it for ages 6 and up. It only took 30 minutes for me drive to Guthrie and parking was plentiful (and free!). The Pollard offers ticket discounts that make the show even more accessible: half price tickets on Thursdays, Student Rush tickets are $15 and children’s tickets are $10. You won’t want to miss this fun and heartwarming production.
