Over 200 elementary and middle school students took part in the Norman Public School Foundation’s annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Tank Challenge, an event that highlighted their creativity and innovation as they presented STEM-based solutions to real-world problems.
The STEM Tank Challenge is modeled after the “Shark Tank” format, in which 20 student teams showcased their research and prototypes to a panel of judges. For several months, students dedicated their efforts to brainstorming, designing and constructing devices intended to enhance the lives of those affected by illnesses or diseases.
“STEM Tank is an opportunity for students to dream big and see their ideas come to life,” said Alesha Leemaster, executive director of the Norman Public School Foundation. “The program encourages students to develop critical science, technology, engineering and math skills, while also fostering a collaborative environment where students cultivate team building and public presentation skills. These are important experiences that will help students navigate a variety of circumstances they might face later in life – both personally and professionally.”
Six student teams were recognized with awards.
