Bethany Children’s Health Center in Oklahoma City opens the first of its renovated Complex Care Units this week. The Complex Care Units at Bethany Children’s provide specialized health care to children with complex medical needs. This $10 million renovation project within the center’s Donald W. Reynolds Complex will update all 12 units, which are 25 years old, by the end of 2024. This week unveils the first of the renovated units.
Improvements to Complex Care Units include bedside lifts for every room, special head walls for each bed with TV and entertainment systems and greater storage space for patients. The improvements allow for greater freedom of movement for patients and staff.
A portion of the funding allocated for the renovation of the Complex Care Units was sourced from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Bethany Children’s Health Center received $2 million due to the passing of Bill 2943 by the Oklahoma House and Senate in May of 2023. The remainder has been funded by foundations, corporations, individuals and other sources.
For 125 years, Bethany Children’s Health Center has advanced pediatric rehabilitation and medical care through technology and recruitment of highly specialized providers. The integration of innovative Smart Home and ZeroG 3D technologies improve patients’ quality of life, and upcoming construction of a new Outpatient Tower will provide expanded services both to current patients and the community at large. As the country’s largest freestanding pediatric rehab center, Bethany Children’s focuses on habilitative and/or rehabilitative care based on each patient’s needs in the least restrictive environment possible.
