Kamrin Green, a seventh-grade English teacher at John Rex Charter School in Oklahoma City, has been named one of three statewide winners in Tinker Federal Credit Union’s (TFCU) annual Teachers + TFCU sweepstakes. She was nominated on TFCU’s Facebook page in recognition of her exceptional contributions as an educator. Green was awarded a $2,000 prize to use outside the classroom.
“It’s super humbling to be recognized for being a great teacher,” Green said. “This is going to really push me forward to keep impacting my students the way that I know I can throughout the rest of my career.”
Since 2008, the Teachers + TFCU program has provided funds for educators to use outside the classroom, acknowledging their personal contributions. Additionally, TFCU offers free financial education workshops across Oklahoma, helping adults and youth learn essential money management skills, from budgeting to planning for different life stages.
“So many recognition programs for teachers award money to be used in the classroom, and teachers give so much inside the classroom daily,” said Heather Kay, assistant vice president and manager of the financial empowerment department at TFCU. “We want our winners to treat themselves to anything they want or need outside the classroom.”
The financial empowerment team and the Teachers + TFCU program are some of the ways TFCU lives up to the credit union motto of people helping people – by meeting needs in the communities we serve.
“We are here to help support teachers by empowering their students to make smart money choices for life,” Kay said. “By coming into the classroom as a guest speaker, we can teach about financial fundamentals like setting goals, making a budget, paying bills and understanding other real-world skills to prepare students for financial independence.”
