OKC Orange Leaf Locations to Collect PJs for Kids in Foster Care

Reading Time: 2 minutesย

Now through Sunday, December 16, any customer donating a new pair of pajamas at any one of the participating Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt in Oklahoma City will receive a coupon for 3 oz. of free froyo as a thank you.

All pajama donations will benefit Citizens Caring for Children (CCC), an Oklahoma City-based nonprofit dedicated to helping local children in foster care. With corporate headquarters in Oklahoma City, Orange Leaf's home office is even participating, gathering employee PJ donations to add to the CCC gift. In an effort to do something different than a traditional food or coat drive this holiday season, Orange Leaf chose a pajama drive in the hope of helping thousands of people stay a little warmer this winter.

When children are removed from their homes due to serious abuse or neglect, they often leave all of their personal belongings behind. For many foster families, the Citizens Caring for Children Resource Center is the first stop they make once a child has been placed in their home. Here they provide each child with new clothing four times a year, free of charge. The pajamas donated at Orange Leaf Stores will be distributed via this Resource Center. The Oklahoma City PJ drive is part of a national effort undertaken by Orange Leaf to collect thousands of pajamas nationwide this holiday season and benefit local nonprofits across the country.

"A piece of our mission at Citizens Caring for Children is to ensure that the material needs of Oklahoma's children living in foster care are met, and Orange Leaf's pajama drive is a significant step in helping us meet our goals," said Amy Mitchell, Executive Director at Citizens Caring for Children. "We are thrilled with the amazing efforts Orange Leaf is taking on to help the less fortunate in Oklahoma City and are excited that we have been selected as the recipient of their pajama drive."

Today in Oklahoma, there are more than 9,000 children living in foster care. Citizens Caring for Children served 4,021 of them in 2011. From the Resource Center alone, CCC will serve at least 3,000 this year, and will distribute more than 35,500 items of clothing to children in foster care. This year, those items will also include PJs from Orange Leaf customers.
