Description
Children and families will have the chance to climb into the cab of a fire truck, explore community vehicles and equipment and meet the professionals who operate them when Touch a Truck returns to the Cleveland County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 26. Hosted by Pioneer Library System Foundation in partnership with Pioneer Library System, the annual event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds, 615 E. Robinson St. in Norman. A sensory-friendly quiet hour for children with sensory sensitivities and their families will be offered from 9 to 10 a.m.
Touch a Truck provides a safe, hands-on environment where children can explore, ask questions and learn through play and discovery, while meeting the people who operate this equipment every day. Proceeds support children's literacy and STEAM programming throughout Pioneer Library System's Cleveland County communities, expanding access to educational experiences that promote creativity, critical thinking and lifelong learning.
"Experience how curiosity sparks learning! Through exploration and imaginative discovery, children will build confidence, foster creativity and develop a lifelong love of learning," said Maureen Pridgeon, past event Chair.
The event has become one of the area's most anticipated family activities, attracting approximately 2,500 attendees each year. By encouraging conversation, exploration and hands-on learning, Touch a Truck also helps children develop early literacy and school readiness skills.
This year’s sponsors include Armstrong Bank, Tinker Federal Credit Union, Crossland Construction Company, Inc., First Fidelity Bank, OEC | OEC Fiber, Sam’s Club and Walmart. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
