Stars, Stripes, and Pipes: A Patriotic Concert & Readings
Celebrate America's 250th anniversary with an inspiring evening of music, history, literature, and civic reflection at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Oklahoma City.
Stars, Stripes, and Pipes is a unique community event that brings together patriotic music, historic readings, and thoughtful reflection in one of Oklahoma City's most beautiful and iconic sacred spaces. Inspired by the beloved Lessons and Carols tradition, the program weaves together selections from America's foundational documents, presidential speeches and correspondence, poetry, and literature with musical offerings performed by organist Joseph Ripka, acclaimed soloist Paul Laurence Fletcher, and the Cathedral's magnificent pipe organ.
Confirmed guest readers include Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Behenna, Oklahoma City Council Member James Cooper, former Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson, and Casady School Head of School Nathan Sheldon.
Musical selections will include the National Anthem, America the Beautiful, traditional American hymns, and other patriotic favorites. Throughout the evening, readings, prayers, and music will alternate, creating an experience that is both reflective and celebratory as our nation marks its semi-quincentennial year.
Following the program, guests are invited to enjoy a patriotic Ice Cream Social before making their way to downtown Oklahoma City's Red, White & Boom celebration at Scissortail Park.
