Designed to get young children excited about reading, Read Across Oklahoma features a day of storytelling, reading-related activities and more. There will also be a variety of activities setup in the park for children to experience that promote reading and the development of literacy skills plus, costumed characters and more. This year's event will feature the book That is a Hat by author and illustrator Betty Selakovich Casey.

The first 1,500 children that day with paid Zoo admission or ZOOfriends membership will receive a free book.

Families and classrooms can also participate virtually by visiting the Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) website at oklahoma.gov/libraries/read to enjoy a special video of children’s author Betty Selakovich Casey reading this year’s featured book, That is a Hat. Online visitors will also enjoy seeing select OKC Zoo animals and habitats as part of the video.
