Description
Features a Paint the Town Blue campaign to raise awareness throughout Oklahoma County. The color blue is used in association with child abuse awareness.
Participating businesses and organizations will feature themed elements April 11 – 15 to express their solidarity.
- April 11: Omni Hotel, First National and Oklahoma Children’s Hospital exterior lights will be turned blue.
- April 11 – April 15: Hurts Donuts, 601 N.W. 23rd, will feature blue donuts.
- April 11 – April 15: Sasquatch Shaved Ice, 1801 N.W. 16th, will offer CARE cones in six different flavors.
- April 18: Oklahoma State Capitol’s exterior lights will be turned blue.
Oklahoma ranks 42nd in overall child well-being, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s 2021 Kids Count Data Book. Oklahoma Human Services investigated more than 68,000 cases of suspected child abuse in 2020.
The CARE Center offers coordinated services for survivors of abuse, including family advocacy, trauma-informed mental health counseling, forensic interviews and wellness exams. Its ROAR program has been presented to more than 12,000 adults and children to prevent abuse and teach body safety.
