Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma will host a Fall Carnival and Sign-Up Event for parents of girls interested in joining a local Girl Scout Troop from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5 at St. Philip's  Episcopal Church, located at 516 McLish St.

Lynette Blevins, GSWESTOK membership specialist, will present information on how for more than 100 years Girl Scouts has been providing opportunities for girls to grow through friendships, mentoring and activities.

Participants can also enjoy pumpkin-related games and activities featuring exploding pumpkins.

Reservations are required to attend the meeting. Parents should text the words “Carter County” to (405) 442-0684 to reserve their place.

Girl Scouts is open to girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. Girl Scouts learn important life skills, benefiting girls in these five areas: strong sense of self, positive values, challenge seeking, healthy relationships and community problem-solving.

In recent years, the organization has deepened its focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), helping prepare girls for careers once unavailable to them. Girl Scouts also learn business skills and entrepreneurship through the Girl Scout Cookie program.
