Description
Features a driving class for individuals with Down syndrome. The purpose of this class is to teach individuals 16 and older with Down syndrome basic driving skills, traffic signs and proper pedestrian safety features. Certified emergency personnel will be on hand to provide safety tips, explore basic driving skills, seatbelt safety and what to do in the event of an emergency. They will also be demonstrating the driving simulator to individuals. Golf carts provided by Moore Norman Technology Center will be on hand for anyone who wants to drive through the “Safety Town” to understand the basics of driving and traffic laws.
Because individuals with Down syndrome do not have the opportunity to take basic driver’s education or are not given the opportunity to learn safety skills, this class will teach them how to be safe whether in the car with a caregiver, public transportation or as a pedestrian.
