The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is alerting consumers to check for possible contaminated food products from Allison’s Gourmet Kitchens. The products are being voluntarily recalled by Allison’s Gourmet Kitchens as a precautionary measure due to the use of hard cooked eggs, supplied by Michael Foods, Inc. that were recalled because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Allison’s Gourmet Kitchens is advising customers to return the packages to the store where they were purchased for a refund. The list of recalled products containing the eggs and can be found at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/.
There are currently no illnesses reported concerning this voluntary recall. The symptoms associated with listeriosis depend on the person infected. Healthy adults and children typically will not develop a serious illness. The symptoms may include fever, chills, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Elderly persons or persons with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of developing severe disease due to listeriosis; these persons may develop meningitis and experience sudden fever, intense headache, nausea, vomiting, mental confusion, and coma. Listeriosis also can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
“We are being extra cautious since listeriosis is a serious illness. If you have the products listed on the recall list, return them to the store for a refund or discard the product. If you have eaten any of the products on the recall list, and develop the symptoms of listeriosis, contact your health care provider,” said OSDH Consumer Protection Division Director K.C. Ely.
Oklahoma and at least 14 other states are included in the recall. As of today, no product-related illnesses have been reported in Oklahoma or any of those states.
