For my birthday, the one thing on my list was a lovely green enameled cast-iron Dutch oven. I was so excited to see it when I opened my present, I may have done a happy dance, thinking of all that I would cook in this lovely vessel; the soups, the sauces, the roasted bits of yummy goodness.
But the happy dance was short-lived for this is the record-breaking hottest year on record in the state of Oklahoma. And in this record-breaking heat, the last thing that I want to do is fire up the stove and cook up something hot.
So I’m impatiently waiting and doing my best to bide my time for the fall. The weather is a bit cooler now, which is fueling my anticipation. I’m gathering cool weather friendly recipes like a squirrel gathering nuts for the winter.
Anticipating those first few frosty nights where my family will welcome the warm, comforting dinners that this lovely vessel will provide. Until then, I’ll just admire it longingly on the shelf, dusting it and biding my time until this heat wave ends.
