Child Abuse Prevention Month Goes Virtual

Reading Time: < 1 minute

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time when we shine a light on ways to strengthen and protect families. Studies show that the most common form of maltreatment is neglect, and in this current climate, the risk is even higher. But, there are ways to help.

Even though Oklahoma families are spending their time at home, everyone can play a part in supporting families.  Here are a few ways:

  • Wear Blue Day is Friday, April 3 and Oklahomans are encouraged to post a selfie to show their support, using the hashtag #OKwearsBlue. Encourage your family and friends to do the same.
  • Kids can participate in a Happiest Day coloring challenge. Have children draw their “happiest day” or simply a fun memory. Then share on social media using hashtags: #PictureaBrighterFuture #Pledge2Protect.
  • Take part in Blue Sunday on April 26, a national day of prayer for children.
  • Join the conversation on Facebook or Twitter with #NCAPM2020 and share valuable resources with your community! Education and awareness are key.

To learn more about other opportunities during the month of April, follow the Oklahoma Child Abuse Prevention Facebook page. If you or a loved one are experiencing abuse and in need of help, call the child abuse hotline at 800-522-3511.
