Families seeking a sensory-inclusive cruise experience can now set sail with confidence. In honor of World Autism Acceptance Month, Carnival Cruise Line announced that Celebration Key, its private destination in Grand Bahama, has become the first cruise destination certified as sensory-inclusive by KultureCity.
This certification reflects Carnival’s commitment to ensuring every guest, including those with autism, sensory processing disorders, PTSD, and other invisible disabilities, can fully enjoy their experience. Over 400 Celebration Key team members are now trained to assist guests with sensory needs, and complimentary sensory bags are available. Each bag includes noise-reducing headphones, fidget tools, light-filtering glasses, a VIP lanyard, and a feelings thermometer to help non-verbal guests communicate emotions.
“For families with sensory needs, vacations should be relaxing and fun,” says Christine Duffy. “By training our staff and offering tailored resources both onboard and at Celebration Key, every guest feels supported and welcome.”
Carnival’s partnership with KultureCity spans six years and includes fleetwide staff training, call center support, and onshore accommodations to anticipate and meet sensory needs. Uma Srivastava, Executive Director of KultureCity, emphasizes that this milestone sets a new industry standard: “By certifying Celebration Key, Carnival is ensuring individuals with sensory needs can fully participate in and enjoy every moment of their journey.”
To celebrate, Carnival hosted a sensory room pop-up at Celebration Key, giving guests a calm, controlled environment for sensory regulation. Families planning a Carnival vacation can now enjoy a destination designed for accessibility, inclusion, and fun, making travel easier for everyone.
