30 Day Mom Challenge Day 8: Calculate how many weekends are left before your child graduates high school.
I don’t want to do this one. I don’t want to focus on how little time I have with my kids as children. My oldest is 9, and I realized with a start the other day that I’m halfway done raising a man. The vast majority of our shared time together, our hugs and kisses and snuggles and precious moments are behind us. He’s growing up so fast. He’s almost not a little boy anymore.
And his sister is not far behind. I no longer have babies, I have big kids who are quickly on their way to being young adults.
I don’t want to be reminded of how fast this time is going; I want to hold onto it while I can.
Instead of counting those weekends, we’re going to count stars in the early winter evenings. We’re going to count pepperoni on the pizzas we make together, chips in our chocolate cookies, plastic bricks used to build a fortress, how many times he can ride his bike around the block before he gets tired. How many seahorses we can count in her favorite book.
Those are the moments I choose to count instead.
