30 Day Mom Challenge Day 7: Leave a sweet note for them.
Don’t we all love to hear positive feedback? A good review of something that we’ve done? A pat on the back or an “atta boy!” when we did the right thing? Well, our children are no different there.
This day’s prompt to “leave a sweet note” for my kids brings up a product that I was lucky enough to hear about: the Care Mail Mailbox and LetzTalk cards (www.letztalknow.com). The cards and mailbox work together to help to facilitate communication between kids and parents. Cards come in age-appropriate sets that have writing prompts for parents (such as “I am very proud of you for…” and “You have shown me that…”) and for kids (such as “Who is your hero?” and “If you knew someone was sad, how would you cheer them up?”). Parents and kids can fill out the cards, put them in the mailbox & raise the flag to indicate that there is a note inside.
My kids are getting to the age where, though I know it’s important for them to hear from me, I want them to understand that it’s just as important for me to hear from them.
But you don’t need special equipment to make your child feel special or to encourage them to reach out to you; it can be as simple as a note tucked into their lunch box; a smiley face or an “I love you” note in their jacket pocket. My kids' faces light up; I can see their shoulders raise up, their visible pride and happiness when they get these special notes that are meant just for them.
What an easy way to make a big difference!
