30 Day Mom Challenge Day 18: Who is a mom you admire? What quality of hers can you live out, today?
This is a tough one. I’m surrounded by moms, both real and imagined (through books, TV and movies), and there are many qualities I admire in many of them; but I couldn’t really put my finger on one mom who inspires me, who drives me, informing my parenting decisions. I don’t have a “What would Claire Huxtable do?” thought process, but she would certainly be in the top 5 moms that I admire.
Yes, she’s a fictional character, but she does it the way that I want to do it. She’s kind, firm, gracious and fair. She works hard, she loves hard and she has high expectations of her loved ones—and of herself. She doesn’t take any crap. She’s level-headed and not a martyr.
On the best of days this is how I try to parent. I try to be honest and fair with my kids. I tell them the truth about things and they know that they can come to me and ask me anything—anything—that they need or want to know about. I can only hope that they’ve internalized this and believe me and follow through on it.
