Preschool vs. Daycare

by Rebecca Lucas

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I just made a very important decision concerning my daughter’s schooling and feel I am doing the right thing. We recently moved (again) and I enrolled her in a new daycare and it has worked out perfectly. She is flourishing at this daycare: she has already learned a lot, made several new friends and she looks forward to going there every day. The Bible is also incorporated into their curriculum which I absolutely love. So, when it came time to enroll her in preschool, I made the decision to keep her at this current daycare for the next year-and-a-half until she starts kindergarten.

There may be many mothers who just gasped when reading the previous sentence but I have very good reasons for this decision. In the past year, we have moved twice and both went through the divorce so I feel I owe her the courtesy of keeping things consistent for her as I still feel bad we’ve been through so much. Besides, the daycare has a curriculum that is preschool-based so she is still learning what other kids her age are.

At the end of the day, as moms, we have to trust our instincts and do what we feel is the best thing for our child(ren). That isn’t always easy but I feel as long as Addie’s needs are always my top priority, then I will hopefully do the right thing. Even if other people disagree, it is important to remember that you know your child better than anyone else and you know his/her potential. I feel really good about this decision. It seems the proof in the pudding is her smiley face every morning when she gets ready for daycare!

Have you enrolled your child in preschool or are you keeping him/her in daycare? I would love to know other opinions on this!
