Goodbye from Jennifer Geary

by Jennifer Geary

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Local homeschool mom Jennifer Geary has been blogging for us here at MetroFamily for the past four years. The creative and talented mom of two has let our readers into her life as a home educator and shared endless resources and ideas over the years. She's now stepping away from homeschool blogging to spend more time with family. Although we're sad to see her go, we love the time and focus she is putting into her responsibilities and home and we have plenty of her blog posts in our archive to keep us busy! See her farewell note below.

This post is a bittersweet one for me to write, as it is my last Adventures in Homeschooling post for the MetroFamily Magazine website. Four years ago, Mari Farthing asked me if I would like to take on this project and I have enjoyed sharing all the things we've been doing with you since then!

MetroFamily will always have a special place in my heart. When we left Offutt AFB in Nebraska for Tinker in 2005, we were over the moon to be back home. As Broken Arrow natives and OU graduates, moving to Moore was basically moving back home for us, or as close as we were going to get in the Air Force. The surroundings were familiar, but most of the people we knew from living there previously had either moved on or were working, and I found myself searching for things to do with my young son. I picked up an issue of MetroFamily one day and noticed a calendar note about a moms group and decided to check it out. There I met many wonderful friends-including Mari Farthing, who later became the editor for MetroFamily-that I'm still friends with today. When we moved back home to Broken Arrow in 2009, I still used MetroFamily to find out about events we might want to travel back for, and then two years later, I began writing the Exploring Oklahoma articles and the Adventures in Homeschooling blog. My family and I have met so many great people and had so many amazing experiences because of MetroFamily!

When I started this blog, my kids were 2 and 7 and most of our days were spent at home. Fast forward four years, and growing family obligations and numerous outside activities keep us running pretty much every day. Those evenings I used to have to plan and write after kids were in bed by 8:30 have become minutes snatched here and there to get done the few things I can at a time. I thought that the labor intensive years were when the kids were young, but as they get older and outside commitments grow, it's still hard work, just in a different way. Now we've reached the point where my family needs my more focused attention again.

I'm so thankful to Mari for thinking of me to write here and share with you, and for Brooke Barnett and Hannah Schmitt, who have done such great work for MetroFamily. You can still find me in MetroFamily in Exploring Oklahoma articles from time to time, along with at Homeschool Share and my personal blog, Little Things.

I hope you all have a wonderful homeschool journey. Remember to relax and enjoy it because it goes so quickly!

Happy New Year and God Bless,

Jen
