Free summer activities for kids

Trying to come up with new ideas for the summer really only does you any good when you are committed to what “new” entails. Travel? Uber? Car seats? Hotel rooms and maybe multiple adults to help carry the stuff. And while y’all probably know by now, I love a good brand-new experience, I don’t poopoo the idea to revisit old favorites around town!

Free summer activities for kids

Metro GymEnjoy free activities for kids at Metro Gym.  – I want to encourage you first to take your kids to Metro Gym for a few hours of catered chaos! Toddler Open Gym is the best way to release all that energy for kids 4 and under! No lines or lessons, just wide-open space with all the gymnastics equipment their little hearts and bodies could want. From trampolines to balance beams and cushioned flooring — they can do it all and most will wear themselves out right on time for that early afternoon nap.

If you can get there when the doors open, the kids get two whole hours. I normally get there with an hour and a half of play to go …and my kids are NEVER ready to go.

I also have to say those of us who attend open gym regularly have wonderful things to say about Ms. Jen who will welcome you and your children to the Open Gym family! She along with all the fun are definitely Metro Gym staples!

NorthPark Mall – Another place I enjoy taking the kids for a short stop is NorthPark Mall. I choose times that are mom or elderly friendly! That long walk of the mall is always an adventure for my babies! They enjoy a bit of window shopping and running, but their favorite part is the wishing well … at least that’s what I call it! I try to remember to bring coins so they can toss money in and, if time allows, while we are there I grab a light lunch or snack!

Edmond History Museum – And while you are filling in your summer calendar, pencil in the Edmond History Museum. They have an educational play area that my kids love! It’s all about being able to touch and learn! They don’t even know they are getting a lesson about life on the prairie. You get a chance to read about Edmond and its key players — you may or may not have known about.

Once your done playing inside, stroll outside to the playground! There’s a section for beginner adventurers and experienced ones as well. Be sure to pack the snacks because sometimes kids like to play here bit longer than expected.

Dick’s House of Sports – And lastly, you may have seen this next attraction on your way to Walmart, Aldi, Crumbl or Starbucks … and it’s likely you didn’t even think twice that it could benefit your family. The new Dick’s House of Sports.

I love the new location simply because they have activities there for the kids on top of a grand selection of all things sports. In this case, I am suggesting it because of the enclosed track. This has been a lifeline at times for me.  My kids have endless energy, and I have to work to get them to sleep through the night. This track has become one of my biggest supporters! We run and race and run and race for as long as we can. The kids find great joy in beating me or each other and I am thrilled that they are engaging in such movement and friendly competition at a young age! This track can be used for kids of all ages. Check it out and let us know what you think! Oh …. Might I add that it’s a good idea to call ahead because sometimes they close the track for events.

I hope your kids enjoy these free summer activities!
