In my last blog for MetroFamily, I came to you from the thick of quarantine. Smack-dab middle of all of our lives changing. With tremendous gratitude, here we are now, finally able to be out and socially distance.
When the opportunity came for us to visit BlocWorks in Edmond, it was an immediate YES! A climbing facility with walls lined with varying circuits, suitable for all ages. At this point, since we are still cautious with our outings, finding an activity that is family-friendly and allows us all an escape is a huge win. It is a gorgeous building, with a small patio in the back for those who want to grab a drink from their fridge and sit outside in this beautiful fall weather.
BlocWorks has a “climber counter” on their website to show you how many people are in the facility at any given time. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was perfect. Everyone wears masks and rotates circuits in between keeping the gym immaculately clean. We felt like we had found the best solution for keeping our kids active and an escape per se, something way out of the norm. A true gem in these moments of enormous change for us all.
It is in these moments when I pause for a break like this with our kids that I find gratitude in the health of those I love. 2020 has left no one unchanged. No matter the individual circumstances we all bear, it has centered every last one of us. Dinners at home are longer, table topics have had us getting to know our family members even deeper and our vacations became local outings.
We may not be going far right now to find our fun and play, but there are plenty of treasures around Oklahoma City. BlocWorks was just what we needed and we were able to make a day of it! My kids, ages 11, 10 and 7, all asked when we could go back. Parent win. I’m certain they deemed themselves certified boulder climbers upon leaving! A solid 10 out of 10 for our family!
Our visit to BlocWorks was an easy reminder that we don’t have to look far to find the good stuff, friends. Stay safe, stay healthy and we’ll see you on the climbing walls.
