Make Your Own Constellations

by Terri Fields

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In honor of Astronomy Day on April 28, make your own constellations.  Choose your favorite from a map of the night sky, which you can find in many books or online.

Materials:

  • Construction paper
  • Pushpin
  • White crayon
  • Piece of cardboard or corkboard

Instructions:

  • Draw a picture of a constellation (popular choices are the Big Dipper, Little Dipper, or any constellation you choose!) on a piece of construction paper.
  • Lay the construction paper on top of the cardboard and use the pushpin to make small dots in the shape of your constellation.
  • Hang your finished picture on a window to see the light shine through the holes.

When you’re finished with your project, take your kids outside to find the constellation that they made in the night sky.
