What Do You Have: Cold, Flu or Allergies?

How many times have you started getting the sniffles or feeling achy and wondered if you might have a cold, the flu or even an allergy?  Although all three have similar symptoms, there are distinct differences between them.  The flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses caused by different viruses. An allergy is just an immune response to something benign in your system.

In general, the flu is worse than the common cold and symptoms such as fever, body aches, extreme tiredness and dry cough are more common and intense. People with colds are more likely to have a runny nose, congestion, sore throat and milder flu symptoms. Allergies tend to have similar symptoms but usually produce no fever.  Cold and flu season tends to start early in November and go until March, while allergies are more typical in spring and fall.

What are some things you can do to combat the flu or common cold?  Since both illnesses are caused by viruses, antibiotics have no affect on them, but what you can do is boost your immune system as much as possible. Maty’s All Natural Cough Syrup, which uses antioxidant buckwheat honey, can help relieve symptoms such as a cough or sore throat, but also help your immune system fight it off. The cough syrup also uses powerful immune boosting ingredients like cinnamon, celtic sea salt and apple cider vinegar to give your body that boost to ward off the illness more quickly. This is an old time remedy that is effective, yet safe.

There are other popular remedies that work to shorten the duration of the cold or flu if they are done when the symptoms first appear.  Some remedies include putting 3 drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide into each ear or sucking on zinc lozenges throughout the day.

If you start to feel a little under the weather this season, be sure to try all natural options and most of all, get enough sleep to keep your body stress free and strong. This goes a long way in helping to put the cold or flu behind you.
