Back to Earth is a new, nature-based educational program serving Oklahoma City. Inspired by the desire to nurture children as whole beings, the curriculum strives to ground children through rhythm and movement while making space for the child’s natural sense of wonder and plenty of space for rest and family time. Back to Earth offers three programs:
- In a three-day homeschool hybrid program for ages 6-8, children begin each morning outdoors with song and movement before moving into the yurt for the main lesson. During the main lesson, they work with a trained Waldorf teacher on the fundamentals: form drawing, language arts and mathematics. The rest of their day will be spent mostly outdoors doing art, handwork, gardening, building, learning primitive survival skills, working with clay, and enjoying abundant free play time on the 8-acre property.
- The Wonderlings program is a weekly forest school class for children ages 4-6. They spend most of their time outdoors (rain or shine). The children enjoy a gentle rhythm including free play, circle time, lunch and rest.
- A parent-tot group meets weekly. During this class, caregivers and parents enjoy each other’s company while their little ones play freely in the space. Leigh Patton discusses the art of parenting, creating rhythm, as well as child development. Ages 0-3 are welcome.
Back to Earth also offers summer camps that explore nature and are open to ages 3 to 8.
