There's no question reading aloud is good for your kids. In fact, research shows kids benefit from being read to as early as birth! Lucky for you, Oklahoma City boasts plenty of opportunities for your kids to hear their favorite books in new and exciting settings. Here are some story times throughout the Oklahoma City metro for kids of all ages. For more read aloud opportunities, see our list of best story times in the metro as voted by our readers.

The Metropolitan Library System and Pioneer Library System offer multiple story times each week at library locations. Check schedule for times and appropriate age ranges.

FREE Story Time at the Mustang Public Library (1201 N Mustang Rd, Mustang). Kids hear stories, sing songs and learn rhymes and then participate in a related craft activity. Best suited for ages 3-7. Mondays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. & 11 a.m. to noon. 

Story Time Science at Science Museum Oklahoma (2100 NE 52nd St) features a a story and corresponding activity in various locations throughout the museum. Free with admission. Tuesdays, 10-10:30 a.m.

FREE Preschool Story Time at the Piedmont Library (1129 Stout St NW, Piedmont) features a 30-minute program geared for 3 & 4 year olds with stories, finger-plays, music and movement. Caregivers must be present and younger children are welcome. Tuesdays, 10 a.m.

FREE Art Adventures at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art (555 Elm Ave., Norman) features a story and hand-on art project built around a weekly theme. For children ages 3-5 with adult. Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. 

FREE Toddler Story Time at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church (2717 W Hefner Rd) features a story time with staff from the Metropolitan Library System on the third Tuesday each month from 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. Open to children ages 0-4 accompanied by their caregivers.

FREE Reading Wednesdays at Myriad Gardens (301 W Reno) features a seasonal, nature-themed story time and a small craft to take home in the lobby of the Crystal Bridge. For ages 2-5. Wednesdays, 10-11 a.m.

FREE Mother Goose Storytime at the Mustang Public Library (1201 N Mustang Rd, Mustang) is a wonderful way for your infant to develop their language and social skills. You and your baby experience activities geared toward their age group like songs, dances, finger plays and more. For ages 2 and under. Wednesdays, 10-10:45 a.m. & 11-11:45 a.m. 

Toddler Story & Craft Time at Unpluggits Playstudio (575 Enterprise Dr Ste 110, Edmond) features a story and craft time designed for their youngest customers. Free with admission. Wednesdays, 11 a.m. 

FREE Whole Kids Club Story Time in the Whole Foods Café (6001 N Western Ave) features stories, crafts and snacks with a children’s librarian from the Metropolitan Library System. Thursdays, 10-11 a.m.

FREE Third Thursdays at Gaylord-Pickens Museum (1400 Classen Dr) features a story time and related craft as well as FREE admission to the museum. Third Thursday, 10 a.m.

FREE Pre-School Story Time at the Mabel C. Fry Public Library (1200 Lakeshore Dr, Yukon) features stories, songs, rhymes, crafts, and more for kids ages 3 to kindergarten. Thursdays, 11:15 a.m.

FREE Mother Goose on the Loose Story Time at the Piedmont Library (1129 Stout St NW, Piedmont) features a variety of activities such as rhymes, songs, puppets and instruments to foster speech development, motor coordination, self-confidence, and sensitivity to others. For ages birth to 3. Fridays, 10 a.m.

FREE Storybook Hour at Cuppies & Joe (727 NW 23rd St). Children listen to a story while parents enjoy coffee and conversation. First & third Saturdays, 10-11 a.m. 

FREE Story Time with Steve at Barnes & Noble Bookstore (540 Ed Noble Parkway) features an extremely silly story time. Everyone gets a treasure and coloring activity afterward. Saturdays, 11-11:45 a.m. 

FREE Story time with Miss Julie at Full Circle Book Store (1900 NW Expressway) every Saturday at 10:15 a.m. Check out their calendar for a list of special guests.

FREE Kids Story Time at Commonplace Books (1325 N Walker Ave) features a half-hour, all-ages story time. Saturdays, 10:30 a.m.

FREE Children's Story Time at Best of Books (1313 E Danforth Rd, Edmond) every Saturday at 11 a.m.
