Celebrate our Independence with Family Fun! MetroFamily’s Guide to Independence Day Fun includes a list of fireworks displays, festivals, parades and other family-friendly celebrations taking place across the Oklahoma City metro and beyond.  So, put on your red, white and blue, light some sparklers, and get ready to “Ooh!” and “Ahh!” as you enjoy some patriotic fun with your family this 4th of July! Be safe and have fun!

FREE Blue Star Museums provides FREE admission for active military members and their families to more than 2000 participating museums across the country from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day. Available to military ID holder and immediate family members. See website for details and full list of participating locations.

June 14-30 & July 3-4

LibertyFest in Edmond is a week-long celebration featuring family-oriented events, including a concert, rodeo, car show, carnival, parade and fireworks. See website for schedule.

June 22

FREE Stars & Stripes River Festival at RIVERSPORT OKC (800 Riversport Dr) features a full day of rowing, paddling and dragon boat racing. Free to attend; parking, $10; participation prices vary. 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

June 28

FREE Bixby Freedom Celebration at the Bentley Park Sports Complex (7673 E 121st St S, Bixby) features a patriotic program, food trucks, entertainment, lawn games and a fireworks show.  7 – 10 p.m.; fireworks, 9:45 p.m.

FREE Purcell Independence Day Celebration at Purcell City Lake (1400 Chandler Rd, Purcell) features food trucks, games and fireworks. 5-10 p.m.; fireworks, 9:45 p.m.

June 28-29

FREE Freedom Festival at Elder Thomas Park (501 NW Ferris Ave, Lawton) features live music, family-friendly activities, drone show and ends with one of the largest firework displays in Oklahoma. 6-10:30 p.m.; fireworks, 9:45 p.m.

June 29

FREE Newcastle Red, White and Blue Fest at Veteran’s Park (NE 16th St, Newcastle) features family-fun entertainment including food trucks, crafts, games, live entertainment, family fun and more. 5-10:30 p.m.; fireworks, 9:45 p.m.

FREE Mustang Firefighters Freedom Celebration at Wild Horse Park (1201 N Mustang Rd, Mustang) features food, fire trucks, music, games, fireworks and more.  6:30-9:30 p.m.

June 30

FREE Family Freedom Fest at The Bridge Church (1116 W State HWY 152, Mustang) features a community event for the whole family with food trucks, live music, bounce houses, games & more, followed by a fireworks display. 6 p.m.; fireworks, 9:30 p.m.

July 2

FREE Blanchard Independence Celebration (10th & HWY 62, Blanchard) features fireworks, food, live music and special activities for kids including carnival rides and inflatables. 6 p.m.; fireworks, 10 p.m.

FREE Fireworks Show at Kickapoo Casino (38900 W MacArthur, Shawnee). Bring lawn chairs and blankets. 9:30 p.m.

July 3

FREE Red, White & Boom Fireworks Show at Abe Raizen Park (2500 N N St, Duncan) features  food trucks, bounce houses, music and fireworks. 5-10 p.m.

FREE Fireworks Show at Firelake Casino (41207 Hardesty Rd, Shawnee) features a fireworks display and live music. Music. 6 p.m.; fireworks, 10 p.m.

FREE Red, White & Boom! Independence Day Concert at Scissortail Park (415 S Robinson Ave) features an uplifting musical celebration of Independence Day. The concert will conclude with a fireworks display. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and the whole family. 8:30 p.m.

FREE Tuttle Fireworks in the Park at Schrock Park (W Main St, Tuttle) features a fireworks display. 9:30 p.m.

July 3-4

FREE Freedom Fest at Chisholm Trail Park (500 W Vandament, Yukon) & Yukon City Park (2200 S Holly, Yukon) features live music, kids’ activities, contests, food trucks, fireworks and more. Freedom Fest starts July 3, from 5-10 p.m., and concludes July 4, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Fireworks at Frontier City (11501 N I-35 Service Rd) features a fireworks show and music nightly. Free to attend. Admission is required to enter park. 9:40 p.m.

July 4

FREE VIBES Artwalk in Downtown Edmond (NW block of Campbell and Broadway, Edmond) features an artist market with various art pieces, including paintings, sculptures, jewelry and more, plus live entertainment. 8 a.m.-noon.

FREE Bethany Boom in Downtown Bethany & at Eldon Lyon Park (36th & College, Bethany) features a parade and fireworks display. Parade, 10 a.m.; fireworks, 9:55 p.m.

FREE Parade of Stars and Handlebars & Festival of Freedom at Shannon Springs Park (2400 S 9th St, Chickasha) features procession of bikes, scooters, golf cars and ATVs, plus fireworks at dark. Parade, 10 a.m.

FREE Celebration in the Heartland 4th of July Festival at Buck Thomas Park (1903 NE 12, Moore) features family-friendly activities, food, music, vendors, local shopping, fireworks and more. Activities start at 2 p.m.; fireworks, 9:45 p.m.

FREE Norman’s 4th Fest at Reaves Park (2501 Jenkins Ave, Norman) features food trucks, live music and family-friendly activities. Activities start at 4 p.m.; fireworks, 9:45 p.m.

FREE Tribute to Liberty at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park (8700 E Reno Ave, Midwest City) features musical concerts, food trucks and a fireworks display. Activities, 7 p.m.; fireworks, 9:45 p.m.

FREE Piedmont Freedom Festival on Piedmont Road (713 N Piedmont Rd, Piedmont) features a parade, games, fireworks and more. Activities begin at 5 p.m.; parade, 6 p.m.; fireworks at dusk.

FREE Duck Creek Fireworks (32894 S 4507 Rd, Afton) features a large fireworks display synchronized to patriotic music and a vintage aircraft display and fly-over. 6 – 11 p.m.

FREE Stillwater’s Boomer Blast at Boomer Lake Park (Washington & Lakeview, Stillwater) features fireworks and activities for the whole family including inflatables and food trucks. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Fireworks begin at 9:35 p.m.

July 4-6

OKC Dodgers vs Las Vegas at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark (1 Mickey Mantle Dr). The Dodgers take the field against the Aviators. There will be post-game fireworks on Friday. $12 & up. 7:05 p.m.

July 6

FREE Independence Day Celebration at Jelsma Stadium (200 E Harrison Ave, Guthrie) features live music, food trucks and pop-up shops, plus a fireworks display at dark. 6-11 p.m.

At-home Fun

  1. Let the kids decorate their bikes with balloons and streamers for a neighborhood parade.
  2. Learn about the Declaration of Independence! Explore the National Archives digitally to see what the document looks like today. Then, introduce your kids to an elementary school classic, Schoolhouse Rock: Fireworks. You can also check out the animated series, Liberty’s Kids, which explores important moments in America’s history.
  3. Set up a sprinkler or Slip-n-Slide for a fun way to cool down. These homemade sponge bombs make for a mess-free water fight!
  4. Make your own festive t-shirt with this bleach art method and craft a patriotic necklace. These easy-to-make crafts are perfect for a variety of ages.
  5. Keep the kids entertained at your backyard BBQ with some fun, old-fashioned games.

    • Kick the Can
    • Watermelon eating or a seed spitting contest
    • Croquet
    • Horseshoes
    • Kickball
  6. Keep the fun going after dark with glow games. Stock up on a few glow sticks for a fun twist on classic kid games like glow-in-the-dark Tic Tac Toe, ring toss or bowling.
