What is the philosophy of your school?Trinity School provides a quality education for students who learn differently in Pre-K through 8th grades. The only school of its kind in the Oklahoma City area, Trinity provides innovative studies to build confidence for academic and social success for students with a variety of learning differences, including dyslexia and other language-based disorders.
Trinity’s structured, multi-sensory programs, small class sizes, and individualized instruction serve children with average to above-average intelligence who experience learning differences due to difficulty with reading, writing, spelling, math, organization, attention, self-management, or sensory processing issues.
Who is your administrator? What is her background?Darlene Troxel is Head of Trinity School. She has over 25 years experience in education, including 6 years in classroom teaching, 10 years in administration and 15 years in language therapy. She has a Master’s Degree in Education with certifications in Supervision and Curriculum Development, School, Administration, Guidance Counseling, teaching English, and Alphabetic Phonics Training. She has published through Lifeway and ACSI Publishers.
What are the qualifications/backgrounds of your teachers?Trinity School teachers are all experienced classroom teachers with college degrees and additional training in multi-sensory teaching methods. Trinity’s staff includes trained Alphabetic Phonics Teachers, a master educational interventionist, master reading specialist, and speech and occupational therapists.
What kind of curriculum do you offer? What are your strengths?All curricula are research-based and taught with sound methodology. Reading tutorials are matched with student needs and include Alphabetic Phonics, Read Naturally, The Wilson Method and The Associated Method. All students practice vocabulary training through the Wordly Wise curriculum. Shurley English and Saxon Math are used throughout every grade level. A variety of hands-on curricula are used for Social Studies and Science. Students in 4th through 8th grades must organize a school notebook and utilize it on a daily basis.
Trinity excels in providing multi-sensory instruction in every subject area for students with a variety of learning differences, including students with dyslexia, other reading and language-based processing difficulties, and math disorders.
All Trinity classrooms are equipped with the Front Row amplification system which helps children hear classroom instruction better. The sound-field system amplifies the teacher’s voice over background noise helping children who have difficulty filtering noise or those with temporary hearing loss due to allergies or inner ear infections.
Speech and occupational therapy is available during the school day for qualifying students.
What kinds of extracurricular activities does the school provide? Include art, service opportunities, sports, etc. Education for all Trinity School students is enhanced with regular art, music, library, computer, and physical education instruction.
Physical Education classes are held 3 to 5 times per week, depending on grade level, and include fitness and nutrition training. Sports include sign-up options in soccer for younger students, basketball and volleyball for older students, and track and field for all ages.
Students in 2nd through 5th grade attend Academic Clubs in which study of a specific culture extends regular classroom instruction in math, science, literature, art, and music. Older students are provided leadership training and begin student council in 7th grade. Academic enhancement classes for older grades include calligraphy and life skills.
Band is offered to students beginning in the 4th grade.
How long has the school been in existence? What is its history?Trinity School was founded in 1961 by Kitty Warren when she purchased a small pre-school from Georgianna Hammett which was housed in St. George's Episcopal Church. After the school grew to the building's capacity of 75 students, Mrs. Warren eventually found a home for it at All Souls Episcopal Church where it began to add elementary grades to its pre-school and kindergarten. In 1983, Bill Haddock joined the school as its new headmaster, and in 1984, the school added Eighth grade.
In 1985, construction began on a new facility. In November 1986, construction was completed and Trinity moved to its current location. In 1991, the building which houses the gymnasium, kitchen, stage, music, art, speech and occupational therapy was built.
What is the typical school day schedule?Trinity students receive daily classroom instruction in all core academic subjects. Daily small-group tutorial instruction in reading and/or language and math provides remediation or enrichment for every student.
Younger students, Pre-K through 4th grade, receive the majority of their core subject instruction in their homeroom each morning with special subjects, such as art, music and library in the afternoon. Older students, 5th through 8th grades, change classes by traveling to designated classrooms for various subjects.
Because Trinity School believes movement helps children learn, all Trinity students have daily recess. Younger students have two recess breaks per day and older students have one daily recess.
Does the school offer a summer program? If so, explain.Yes, Trinity School’s Summer Program includes intensive math instruction, Alphabetic Phonics, and science investigation with options available for all ages.
When children graduate or move on from your school, what is it that they should have acquired from your school?Trinity School seeks to develop each student's academic and cognitive skills, build strong and effective work habits, teach persistence and courage in overcoming difficulties, develop healthy social interactions, and strengthen self-image and sense of self-worth.
