Western Village Academy Student Places 9th in the Nation at the 2008 National Hershey's Track & Field Games!
The Hershey's Track & Field Program was created over 30 years ago to promote youth physical fitness. It's the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada. Track & field meets take place in every state and every province in North America. Only the best athletes ages 9 to 14 make it to the grand finale—the North American Final in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It is like the Olympics for school-aged children.
Nine-year-old Victoria Vickers is a fourth grader at Western Village Academy. She was one of only five Oklahomans to qualify for this year's national event. Victoria is the state champion in her age group for the long jump. Her record jump: 6-feet, 6 inches. That is the longest jump by a 9 or 10 year old in this region which includes Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.
Victoria Vickers placed ninth in the nation in long jump (6’6") at Hershey Nationals. She was one of the youngest competitors in the entire competition. Both of her parents went with her to Pennsylvania.
They returned this past weekend.
