I'm going to admit it. I'm a Sex (and the City) addict. Because my hubby and I never splurged for HBO, I watched every season on DVD, typically in half-day increments or late at night on my laptop after the kids had gone to bed. I actually think it's the preferable way to watch it. Much easier to keep up with who is sleeping with whom and I'd get to laugh for hours at a time. love everything about SATC, from it's first person voice over (Carrie Bradshaw, sex columnist) to it's slapstick sexual humor. Yet it's not just about the couture outfits or the big parties. The friendship between the four characters gave the show it's real heart. When the series ended, it left a void that has yet to be filled. I relied on some good chick lit for laughs, but nothing comes close on the boob tube to SATC.
I knew I had to celebrate the Girls coming to the big screen with my own girlfriends, so eight of us met for dinner at El Chico before the 6:30 showing at AMC. We got to catch up and gab about our lives much like the Girls do in the show. Although, I'll admit, we didn't talk about s-e-x (though one was pregnant, so we know it's happening) and three of them in the group were even SATC virgins. No matter. Even if you've never seen the show on TV, you'll quickly catch on (thanks to a brief montage at the beginning of the film) and the movie's plot can stand alone.
The movie didn't disappoint in the slightest. With something like 180 wardrobe changes in the film, you'll get plenty of fashion and you may even feel a sympathy corn coming on from watching all those high heels in action. Each character gets a nice sub-plot, but of course, Carrie is the star of the show and her relationship with Mr. Big is bigger than ever. I found myself crying four times during the film, but I won't tell you what caused the waterworks. The movie is rated R, like the show itself, for cursing, sex and nudity. Really, it wouldn't be SEX and the City without it, right? Ladies, you'll love, love, love the flesh, and take my word for it: guacamole has never tasted this good.
