From Meg Alexander:
Are you ready to eat? It seems like we start with Thanksgiving and the eating and drinking doesn’t stop until New Year’s Day. From work parties to school parties to neighborhood parties, there is always some excuse to overindulge. Recently, I got a wake-up call when I had my metabolism checked at the Draelos Metabolic Center in Edmond. The test goes fast. You breathe into a machine for 10 minutes. It measures how much oxygen you consume. That translates into how many calories you need per day. I’d always been told I needed about 2500 calories a day given my weight and lifestyle. Not so. Turns out, I only need 2100 calories a day. That would explain my inability to drop those last 10 pounds after my last baby. Did you know eating just 300 extra calories a day can add up to an over 20 pound weight gain in one year? Yikes!
Now at least I know the truth, although this next month is probably not the best time to diet. Like most Americans, I think I’ll wait until the first of the year. Have a great weekend and next week we’ll talk Turkey!
