Awesome Mom Inspirations
One of the hardest things we do each year at MetroFamily is choose the winner of our annual Awesome Moms contest. Each entry is so deserving of the honor, and if there is one thing we have learned over the years, it's that moms give... and they give and give and give. Whether caring for a newborn, encouraging their grown kids or blessing a child that is not their own, moms do amazing things day in and day out. We hope you are as inspired as we were to read about the wonderful moms in our community, from the ones that matter most, their family and friends.
And if you have someone you appreciate as a mom, we hope you are inspired to write them a note explaining why you value them this Mother's Day.
Happy Mother's Day!
(Editor's note: Initials have been used with respect the privacy of the women entered in our contest.)

This is one powerhouse mom who truly inspires me in all that she does! She is a dedicated, devoted mother of three, who overcame so many obstacles in her life to be where she is today, including caring for a mother her entire life who suffered from mental illness before losing her suddenly to cancer five years ago. As someone who came from humble beginnings, she has basically made it her life's work to ensure others don't have the same challenges she did and to have access to resources.
She is passionate about her motherhood--she's dynamic, caring, a trailblazer and devotes the same energy and enthusiasm to her community as she does her family. She worked for KIPP Reach College Preparatory, where she promoted the school, raised funds and helped children from underserved communities gain admittance into the nation's top boarding and state's top high schools. Additionally, she spent nearly four years securing resources for White Fields, a nonprofit that cared for some of the state's most abused children, whose parental rights were terminated. She is currently vice president at Langston University and also serves as executive director of the university's foundation.
She serves on the board for the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs and Civic Center Foundation and has helped countless nonprofits through volunteerism and free consulting through the years. What I love most about her is she is so humble. She simply wants to make a difference and confided in me that she will never stop advocating on behalf of those who cannot help themselves because they didn't ask for their circumstances.
I admire her grace, perseverance and most of all that she is setting a fine example for her three young children. She embodies the old adages that "demographics don't define destiny" and that "education is the great equalizer." I certainly admire and am inspired by her!

The most amazing moms don't have to be perfect. They are always there for you when you need them no matter the obstacles. She is no exception. She is the mother of five children, a former Army reservist, an Air Force wife and a person who will work tirelessly working to better others before herself.
She has dealt with a lot in her life. For instance, in 2010, one of her children was diagnosed with a rare form of Epilepsy. Through many years of heartache, brain surgery and hospital visits, she was able to stay strong and lead her family to start living a normal life.
On March 25, 2014 (her birthday), her house burned down while visiting her husband who works at Tinker AFB. Although this was devastating especially to the children, sadly it got worse. Just three months after the fire, the family was in a car accident causing her to be hospitalized and later be placed in a wheelchair. Even to this day she still hasn't fully recovered from the loss of her ability to walk. Yet, she still stays strong. One child is getting ready to apply for college, and another is almost completely epilepsy-free. To me what makes a great mom is one who can lead and inspire when things look bleakest. She truly is an amazing mom!

"Why My Mom is Amazing"
You know, sometimes you don't realize what all your mom does for you. From the moment you were born, your mom was there for you. When you were a baby, your mom knew exactly what you needed. She fed you when you were hungry, cared for you when you were sick, hugged you when you just needed a hug. I remember when I got my first bike. I was 5. When I got my training wheels off, I fell off so many times, I can't count. And every time I fell, my mom was there with a band-aid. She would fix me up and give me a hug. She also encouraged me to get back on my bike.
Then, there was the time we went to Frontier City. We went with my cousin, Luke. He is 12 and he rides all the big rides. He kept wanting me to go on the Silver Bullet. In case you don't know, it's a really big roller coaster. And my mom was the person that gave me the final push. I went and it was so much fun, I rode it again. And I would have missed out if it weren't for my mom.
So you see, even if sometimes your mom seems unfair, or she can't do the floss, your mom's the best person in your life. And she can never be replaced.

My mom would be a wonderful candidate and an awesome mom. She has 3 kids and lets us be what we want and learn from our own mistakes. She is a wonderful grandma to Paeyton and enjoys spending time with her kids having campfires and cook outs to watching movies together! Hug and Kiss Your Children Every Day Tell Them and Show Them how much you Love Them! Thank you for this opportunity for my mom and have a wonderful day!

My father passed away when I was 14. My mother, who is technically my step mother but the one who raised me, kept on loving my brother and I both as if we were her own. To this day, she still remains amazing. Constantly working two jobs, six days a week and has not been on a date or anything in twelve plus years since my dad passed. I want her to be happy
My mom is the hardest working person I know. She has given my sister and I continuous support, whether it be through helping us with graduate school and medical school applications, or volunteering to live an hour and a half away from her husband so my dad would be able to be a live-in "nanny" for my sister so she could complete medical school. She would drive up every weekend, the only time she was able to see him for two years. Additionally, my mom has been by my dad's side through three organ transplants, now waiting on a fourth. She schedules all his appointments, manages all the payments and fights with insurance, and helps him remember to take pills. She is the sole provider for me, my dad, my sister and my niece. She also took my boyfriend in and has helped him navigate enrolling in college, getting braces and finding ways to make money to pay for school. She does all this without ever complaining. She is also funny, witty and tough as can be! 250 words is not nearly enough to describe how amazing she is.
S. C. nominated by B. S.
S. is a mom who knows how to lead by example and how to be brave when even if it means doing hard things! She is a foster mom to three amazing siblings and always has joy in her heart as she deals with some really difficult circumstances with them. She is also a business owner and has her own Dog Hotel and Spa which is a booming business in Edmond, OK. She is involved in our community and looks past just being successful, instead wants to make a difference and in that she is incredibly successful. She is full of compassion and grace as she leads her company and her family.
E. K. nominated by B. K.
After losing her first set of twins, she was blessed to bear a second set and how she has taken on this responsibility with joy and, as a husband, I love watching motherhood in such an adorable fashion, at six months pregnant looking as amazing as she did when I first ask her to marry me. The best mother of three and she can get plenty more out of me.
C. G. nominated by B. W.
She is my angel on earth. she is a true light in so many people's lives! She was a foster mom for my daughter when she had no one. She found me on Facebook when the world turned their back on me. She led me to a life without drugs and helped me be the mom I was meant to be. Six years later, we are sisters, maybe not blood, but you would never know the difference. She has five kids of her own. She loves my newest addition like her own. If angels walk on earth, she is one for sure!

This woman has put her family before anything else. She has gone through it all as a military wife and mother of an ADHD child. She has finally gotten to a place where she can start adding time in for herself. She gives her everything to her kids and family.
V. L. nominated by C. B.
I cannot say enough about V. She's been a wonderful, loyal friend, a mother, daughter and business woman. She mentors high school children to follow their dreams and inspire them. She's been a role model for her god daughters and has always been there to hold my hand and share stories of how we both can become better mothers and take care of ourselves. She's worked for the Thunder and Orlando Magic all while being a full-time mother. She just gave birth to her second son and she's on maternity leave until April. I'd love for her to win this because she's well deserving of this recognition even if she doesn't know it.

Having three kids under five can be very tough at times. From cleaning up yucky messes to literally bathing yucky messes, somehow this mom is always committed to giving her everything everyday of her life. She is a wife, a wife that makes sure the laundry is done, house is cleaned and food is ready for her husband when he gets home every day. She is a mother, a mother who wakes her children up for school with warm open arms squeezing them so they know they're loved before anything else. A mother who makes sure her kids feel they're needed in this world by encouraging them to be leaders at everything they do. She follows up with their teachers during the day to check and make sure progress is being made daily. She makes sure we know the baseball schedule and has everything prepared ahead of time. She does this while having to care for a one-year-old baby girl who only wants mom to herself, a baby who demands her attention all day every day. A baby who is looking to her for love, care and guidance. As you can see this mother is more than just a mom. She is our world. Everything ends and begins with her. Without her, our world would be chaos. I thank God for her and can't believe he blessed me with this immaculate woman.

I would love to tell you about an amazing mom that I know. She is a selfless single mother of two disabled sons, one biological child and one adopted, but you would never know. Even with everything on her plate, she will still go feed the homeless with her boys. My daughter is very passionate about helping the less fortunate by any means. She makes sure that her kids are in a positive environment. She has done foster care for six years as well. My daughter is an awesome mom and I love her and her loving caring heart.

There are no words great enough to describe how great of a mom she is. She has been through so much in the 15 years that I have known her. Things that no women should ever have to go through, but through it all she held her head high and pushed forward. She is so much of an inspiration and role model to not only her four kids but to me as well. I pray for healing and happiness for her every night and I thank God that he has put her not only in my life but my children’s life. She is an amazing wife, mother, sister in law and aunt. She is the strongest person I have ever met and deserves this prize plus so much more. We are not related by blood but I would 100% take a bullet for my sister-in-law. She is amazing and deserves to win!

My mom has been the most awesome mom because she has always loved me and stuck by my side whenever for whatever I needed! When I remember growing up, the best times was with my mom. She's has always gotten me what I needed and more. She's my shoulder to cry on. She has always been my rock. And now she's a grandmother, and let me tell you, she is the best Nana in the world and would do anything for us now until the day she passes. Thanks mom for being the best mom and the best Nana ever!! Life without you would never be the same!!"
A. S. nominated by K. J.
My sister is amazing. She has three kids, two of which were born while her husband was deployed. She is homeschooling her kids and this month will welcome two foster kids into her home. She is selfless and giving. She was done with potty training and is jumping back into the trenches to care for her husband's half niece and nephew. She teaches classes for her home school group. She has a lot on her plate and despite all that stays positive in the most stressful situations. She never takes time for herself, always too busy. A spa day would be a great reward for all she does for family and friends.
D. L. nominated by D. L.
I nominate my wife. Without her, I would be lost. The way she loves my children or anyone for that matter makes me fall in love with her all over again every day. My wife has suffered from postpartum depression after all three of her pregnancies. We recently just had a daughter 4 months ago and my wife is doubting herself as a mother. I don’t understand it because in my eyes she is a superhero. I hate seeing her cry because she feels like everything is her fault. I wish she could see what I see.
It is beautiful and amazing that she is breastfeeding my daughter. It warms my heart that she goes above and beyond to make my twin 9-year-old boys and 5-year-old son feel included and not forgotten even though she just had a baby. I know I don’t make things easy on her being a firefighter and I hate that she worries about me so much but I love her for it. I want my wife to know she’s a super mom and that she is loved and appreciated. I try my hardest to show her every day how much I love and appreciate her but her postpartum depression keeps her from seeing it. I’m sure if she won this it would make her cry and hopefully see that she’s doing a great job.

My mom makes everyone feel like they can do anything. She has raised four kids and encouraged us to be who we are and we are all very different. She worked to help pregnant teens to complete high school by watching their babies. She also taught parenting classes to adults. She is a moral compass for all. My friends still call her for advice and she's 72 years old. She's a mom to all but I'm lucky to call her my mom!
S. L. nominated by E. L.
My mom is the best mother anyone could ever ask for. She was always my champion, best friend and the glue of our family. I've adopted four kids from foster care and she loves each one unconditionally.

My best friend Brooke is the hardest working and loving mom I know! We met when she was working in the ER working nights so her husband can go to school during the day. She now works two jobs all while always making time to take care of not only her two kids, but love mine as her own as well! She loves her kids, family and friends and will stop at nothing to show them and give them everything she can! This hard working mom deserves nothing but the best!
My wife to me is the best mom I have ever known. She had a very rough childhood. Her mother lost a baby when she was 2-years-old and her brother was 14. Their mother fell into deep depressions and she spent most of her time with her dad or dad’s mother. She was not raised in church and only attended when friends invited her.
She is with all five of her children through thick and thin. Their ages are 26, 20, 8, 5 and 2. She worked hard labor jobs while pregnant with all five children. She puts everyone including myself, and especially her kids before herself. The kids are all church-goers and raised them to put Christ first in their lives. She is now a very successful Deliverance Minister and we all couldn't be more proud to call her an Awesome Mom!

M. is a selfless mother. She works a full time job at a company helping other people create and plan their dream events and she also operates her own business to support her family. She just gave birth a few weeks ago to her second child. He was a surprise after having her first son only 20 months ago. She runs the children's ministry at her church and is a leader in the teen ministry as well. Only two weeks after giving birth, she was back ministering with baby in her arms. She and her husband fell on difficult financial times at the end of last year and had to move out of their home in October while pregnant. They are currently living in one room with their two boys inside her mother’s house. Despite these setbacks, she is positive and uplifting to everyone around her. She has been a bit overwhelmed with two under age 2 but continues to pour into others. She is an awesome woman, mother, entrepreneur, employee, volunteer and friend.

My daughter is a single mom of three wonderful kids and I am not just saying because they are my grandchildren. They are polite, loving kiddos. She has a full time job as a Pre-K bilingual teacher’s assistant and receives no child support. She is living on solely her income and even when she has no money left over from her small paycheck she still manages to keep the kids busy with either going to the park or finding other free activities. My daughter also like her children grew up without a father figure but we still seemed to manage with the love of God and family. Glenda Marie loves spending time with her family. She loves her job and working with the children.

K. is an amazing mom to her son with special needs, as well as a full time pre-K teacher at Positive Tomorrows. I've never known a mom to advocate for her son more. She is constantly researching new treatments and medications and natural remedies for her sweet boy. She has become a resource for countless local and not so local (some even in other countries) moms. Even after giving 100% to her students and son, she does not hesitate to counsel and uplift any other momma in need. She's mom AND teacher.

My mom has always been amazing. I just didn't realize it until I became a mom myself! We were a family of six and struggled to get by. But she never made that known. She raised us all to be wonderful hardworking God-fearing adults. We have tons of family vacation memories. As an adult, she is now my best friend! And I know the sacrifices that she made for us all.
J. W. nominated by J. G.
My mom is a teacher. She was always a great teacher as I was growing up, but when she was 40 years old, she went back to school to really be a teacher. I was a junior in high school when she made this brave decision to quit her job and pursue her dream. Naturally, she succeeded. My sister and I both followed in her footsteps and are both educators, as well. As an educator, my mom was nominated as Teacher of the Year multiple times in her district. As a retired teacher, she constantly runs into former students who give her big hugs and tell her what an impact she has had on their lives. It's almost like spending time with a celebrity when I'm with her and these former students see her.
Growing up, I always saw her as a mentor. She helps guide me in my friendships, helped me during a difficult divorce and, as I am raising teenagers of my own, she helps encourage me and lets me cry on her shoulder over all the fears and failures I face as a parent.
In her retirement, she volunteers at the local hospital , but I know she does far more than her job. She has made friends with some young mothers who work at the hospital and has been mentoring and encouraging them. I am so proud to call her my mom.

L. is a mother of three kids, two girls and one boy. She is a hard working mother. The kids absolutely love her. She is like their comfort zone. The way she understands her children amazes me. Her dedication in making her kids great is very selfless and loving of her. Everything she is and does is for you kids.

My friend makes mothering look effortless. As a working mother, her time is tightly scheduled in the evenings, but her children are in tons of enriching activities. Her children are great students, musical, athletic and artistic. These abilities are encouraged and supported by her every day. In addition, the kids are taught important moral lessons to make them be good human beings. She is the mother of three adopted children. Never at any point does she think there is anything but a mother/child connection. She's a hero to working mothers, adoptive mothers and mothers in general. She deserves a treat as she is the epitome of an awesome mom.

My wife is an amazing mom. She had our son and had a lot of complications that has caused her to be unable to work. She stays home and does an amazing job to take care of our son through all the pain that she now has and she also deals with seizures. She does an amazing job as a wife and first time mom.
A. B. nominated by J. B.
My mom is more than awesome. She had such a rough childhood growing up. Instead of choosing that path for her kids, she not only raised my sister & I to be the women we are today, but she and my father also began foster care. She loves kids who no one else will. She works both at her job, and at home taking care of the house and kids. She has adopted three and soon to be four kids into our family. She hides behind her smile and puts her best foot forward for us kids no matter what she is going through personally. She deserves this more than anyone. My mom is caring, loving, funny, kind hearted and she is always there for us.

My wife is definitely an awesome mom. Despite being the executive director for a nonprofit in Oklahoma City, she always makes time to do things for our two girls, age seven and age three. She always sacrifices what little free time she has to take the girls shopping, help with homework, and take them to soccer practice. She always makes time to listen to what has been going on with each of them at school, and reads to them every night before bed. I could not ask for a better partner in being a parent. She is absolutely an amazing mom to our two daughters.
P. G. nominated by J. R.
My mom is the greatest mom in the world. She has always worked two jobs to make sure me and my other two siblings had anything we needed even if that meant she went without. We are all over 30 and she still makes sure we have everything. She has always been there with a shoulder for me to cry on. My mom is a nurse that loves to help people. That's what inspired me to become a nurse. My mom would give you the last penny and shirt off her back if that meant helping someone. She is my inspiration!

I would like to nominate my wife. I am currently deployed and have been off and on for quite some time. She runs our household of six while I am gone and she is the president of the PTA for our children's school and vice president of the states PTA. While doing all of this, she helps our children with their homework every night, takes our children to their games and practices several nights a week, volunteers at the OKC Zoo and is an active member of the Canterbury Choir. She never complains and always gets the job done. I truly feel she is deserving of your award.

My half sister is the best mom I know. She escaped a horribly abusive relationship, has moved often before finding stability and now works two full time jobs to support her daughter. She is the epitome of a success story.
J.G. nominated by K.S.
I have to say that in my life I have only come across a handful of people like J. Here is someone who DOES IT ALL! Not only for her own family but has gone out of her way time and time again for several other families. She is a mom of five and handles their busy sports schedules on top of spending her days teaching kindergarten and providing after school care. She does not stop there. She is also a basketball coach who I have witnessed spend two seasons now going out of her own way to provide my child and other members of the team a ride to and from practice just to be a help to other families. There are not enough words allowed to explain the stories of how she has been a blessing to so many families but if you want to reward someone who embodies the qualities of selflessness, giving, sacrifice and just pure goodness, its J.G.!

My sister makes an awesome mom because she has overcome and is overcoming so much. She is an Army veteran that served two terms in Iraq. She struggles with PTSD and some physical pains, but she has never let it slow her down. She is active in serving Wounded Warrior and Autism Oklahoma. She is extremely humble in her accomplishments. She was the first woman in the Muscogee Creek Tribe to receive the Combat Medic Badge and has degrees in Psychology and Business specializing in Health Management. I could easily go on and on about how awesome she is and she has accomplished this while being a supportive wife and mother of four children.

My mom is the best mom out there! She lets me cook with her. She cleans up after all four kids. I love her so much! She deserves anything she can get her way! She makes me cook book recipes. She does my hair. She lets me have a phone! She lets me do her hair. She plays card games with me and my friends. She is the most loving person I could ever meet and I'm so lucky to have her as a mom!

My mom is an awesome mom because she has tolerated me for 38 years! I was an only child until I was 17. My mom got pregnant with my brother who we were told had Hydrocephalus. My brother had to have brain surgery within a couple days of birth. He has had many complications and multiple surgeries since, but he is very healthy and doing great. My mom has always been so strong through it all and been there for all of us. I know I never made it easy on her when I was at home or on my own. She is one tough cookie and she takes care of her family in amazing ways. She deserves the recognition that I should have been giving her all along. Anything could go wrong at any time with my brother and that is always a worry. She is very protective but unbelievably loving and always puts her kids first. I haven't made the road any easier on her. We are working on mending our relationship. It hasn't always been easy, especially living hours apart. I feel that if I can get the recognition for her and hope she realizes what an awesome mom she is, it will help some. I love my Mom more than anything in the world. I am sure that gets questioned on occasion but I do. I would give her the world if I could.

B.A. not only is one of the best person I've ever met, but is truly one of the most amazing mothers. She is a single mother of two teenage boys and last year adopted four of her nephews and nieces all under the age of 13. She works three jobs to provide for her family and makes sure her family has everything they need and somehow still makes times for loved ones and friends. She saved my life and has been my best friend and second mama. She is ALWAYS there for everyone even complete strangers. She deserves this and more!! She is the least selfish person I know, a blessing from above!

My mother has a heart of gold! She's the most thoughtful person and is constantly thinking of others. She's a huge animal lover and carries dog and cat food in her car to feed homeless pets she finds. She's always giving little kids presents in her neighborhood just to make them feel special. She's on a very tight budget but always manages to give to others. She could have a $5 in her wallet and would give it to someone in need. She's the very best grandma and mom and we love her heart so much!
My mom is the most hardworking, caring and gentle person I've ever met. She works hard every day. Then she comes home, doesn't even sit down, goes straight to working on dinner. She never thinks of herself. It's always about us kids. She makes sure she’s at every sporting event, even volunteers to help with them. She makes me want to do my very best so I can one day give back to her for always giving us her all.

I met M. when I first moved to Oklahoma with my four children. She is my neighbor. She is also a single mom. She stays at home to take care of her children and is unemployed because of a physical disability. Her oldest daughter is autistic and requires much care, which she provides without complaining. Her resources are sparse because of the small amount of child support she receives. However, she manages to feed her children nutritious meals and to provide for all their needs.
M. is very giving. Even with her lack of resources, she made sure my family had a place to go for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am currently attending UCO. She provides daycare for my youngest child when I have to go to school and she only accepts a little money in return for that. M., without hesitation, has readily been willing to come over and watch any of my children.
The fantastic thing is that she not only does this sort of thing for me but she is willing to help anyone who is in need. M. has a heart of gold. I am so humbled watching this wonderful mother and all she sacrifices for her family and all the rest of the community she serves. She struggles with anxiety and other health problems, putting herself out there is NOT an easy task.

I recently got married and my mother-in-law was by my side every step of the way. With such a beautiful day also comes lots of family drama. My mother-in-law opened her heart to me and accompanied me to such important moments during the wedding planning. My own mother lives in a different country and my mother-in-law lived only 40 min from me. My mother-in-law and I would see each other on the weekends and talk about colors, decor, dresses. Without her even knowing, she helped me de-stress about planning a destination wedding. One of the most beautiful memories I have is of her going with me to pick out my wedding dress. It was my mom, my sisters and her. It felt like we were all one family at the boutique. Once I tried on my wedding dress, she started crying and told me how beautiful I was and how lucky she felt to have me as part of her family. It was one of the most beautiful comments and feeling of love and acceptance I have experienced. She has accepted me as her own daughter since the first day we met and I can feel her immense love for my husband and me. She is the most amazing mom because she has opened her heart to me and accepted me as her own daughter.

This great mom is a single mom who is disabled and on disability. Her income is very limited. She was told she would never give birth. At the age of 35, she became pregnant. The boyfriend moved on. Even with all her struggles she had going on, she was delighted to have a beautiful child. She loaded love and care onto her baby, moving in with her parents for the first two years and moving into her own place once she felt comfortable taking care of child. Now, ten years later, she takes her child to girl scouts, parades, school events, doctors appointments, without missing a beat. This mom goes without for her child to have the things she needs. I think that is wonderful and I am so very proud!

My daughter A. is an amazing mom. She has persevered the past two years after her father was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. She got married and had a baby while dealing with her daddy's cancer and never leaving my side. He died on October 15, 2018. She stood with me as we held his hands and he took his last breath. A. goes above and beyond for her boys. She has basically adopted a couple of the boys on her boys’ football team. They would not have the experience of being on sports team if not for her. She makes sure they have equipment by getting it donated or handed down for them. She keeps them after school so they can make it to practice or games. She even does their laundry so they have clean clothes to wear. She goes out of her way to include them so they can experience a normal childhood. She already has her hands full with her own 2 and even as a single parent will not let anyone else miss out if she can.

V. is a mother of five. She works two jobs and still manages to take care of her mommy duties. I feel as if she is a mother to everyone she meets. She always makes sure everyone is taken care of from teachers at school to sick people at church. She is always going above and beyond to help someone in need. She would give you the clothes off her back. It doesn’t matter what time or day if you need help, she's there not expecting anything in return. She really has such a good heart. She has helped me and my kids many times. She was always there to help and I don't know where me or my kids would be without her.

My sister-in-law is an awesome mom. She has five kids. The three oldest she took in as her own the day she met them. She is only 23 years old and she juggles a lot on her plate. She has taught them respect and honesty. Those kids are so lucky to have her. She is a stay-at-home mom, so she never goes out or does much. She never has the time and she hates being away from her kids! She really deserves this. She works non-stop with all her kids, always at school activities. She tries her best to do new things with them. She is the strongest mom I know.

My mom deserves a spa day and so much more. My dad passed away when I was 4 and my brother was 3. My mom was 26 when he died. She was able to be a stay-at-home mom to us until we were in elementary and junior high. She didn't remarry until I was 22. She ALWAYS put us first. She's an amazing Grammy to her grandchildren. As I've gotten older, I realize how lonely she was at times. All of her family lives out of state. It was her faith that got her through. I'm so thankful for my mom and this is the least I can do for her.

Taryn is AMAZING! Not only does she raise her six children, she also helps me raise my five as a single, working mom. She prepares dinner for two families, takes both sets of children to doctor appointments, runs to school when either set of kids forgets something that's needed, always puts her family and others first, and NEVER complains or thinks about herself or what she could gain.
Everything she does for others and, specifically myself, is a gift without expectation and I couldn't think of a more deserving mom than one who takes care of 11 children day in and out simply out of the goodness of her heart and a love for our kids! I don't know where I would be without her. My kids love her as a second mother and she deserves every single bit of this and more. I only wish I could give it to her myself!

I am nominating my biological mom, J.P. Even though she didn't raise me, she did one of the most self-less acts a woman can do. She found out she was pregnant at 17 and knew she couldn't take care of a baby, so she gave me up for adoption. She wanted more for me than she knew she could give. I know it was one the hardest decisions she ever had to make. I was adopted at 3 months and my adoptive parents gave me a good life. But I had so many questions that no one could answer. It left a big hole in my heart. When I was in my 20s, I went on a quest to find my biological mother. After a judge granted me permission to see my original birth certificate with her name on it, I began calling numbers in the phone book. Hers was the third number I called!
I'm sure she remembers that day. She said she had been looking for me too and, come to find out, we only lived a few miles from each other! We met soon after and she began answering my endless questions. She filled that empty spot in my heart and we have been inseparable ever since. It's been 28 years since I found her and I treasure the relationship we share. She is my best friend and biggest fan and I want to honor her today for the amazing mom she is!

My mother is 73 years old. She just lost my dad last year after 39 years of marriage. Before they had two children of their own (my sister and I), she raised my two uncles, her sister’s children, just her and my grandmother alone. Then she met my dad and she helped raise my father’s first two children. She devoted her life to working hard and raising all of us!!
Then we all grew up and had children and she is still helping us raise them. Today, my 17-year-old nephew lives with her to help out my sister. She also is letting my 19-year-old daughter live with her to be close to school. She welcomes all the company especially this last year after losing my father, but she does all of this just out of love for her family. My stepson and his wife just lost her father over this past weekend, and without even thinking twice, offered to help drive them to Missouri to attend the funeral. She is completely selfless. She will do anything for anyone. You could call her today and ask for help and she would come. All of us can always count on her to be there for us and cannot express how much we appreciate her and everything she does. I only wish we could do more for her! She is so faithful, she attends church every Sunday and never asks for anything for herself, instead just always offers prayers for everyone around her. My mom is so awesome, I hope you pick her!

My wife is an amazing mom to our four kids. Grace under pressure, she delivered our youngest child by c-section; then 5 hours later sent me to the ER so I could have an emergency appendectomy. She is about to be the solo parent as I depart on a 6-month deployment. No doubt in my mind that my kids are in capable loving hands.

My Mom... Honestly, I cannot describe her character traits, her love for her family and joy she brings to us in words, but I will give it a shot! She and my dad celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in January. She is the mom to four grown children, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild! Each one of these children would say that she makes THEM feel like they are the most special. She is there for as many activities as she can be, spreading herself over several cities! Growing up, she was very involved in our school and church activities. She kept things running smoothly on our farm with organizing things we needed for stock shows, contest, speeches, sports, plays, youth group, trips, etc... on and on and on. Not only was she present, she loves the Lord with her whole heart and models this through her life.
She has spent hours putting together memory books and videos of our family and heritage for all of us to treasure!! Each year when the grandkids were little, she had "Santa" come to her house and had given him notes ahead of time about each grandchild! She taught us growing up how to work hard, have fun, keep things in order and to love the Lord. She was always there... available, present, to listen, guide, share, tell us to practice piano, (which even after driving each of us to practice, she doesn't have a piano player, but that's ok!). She has played the piano at church for many years and we get to enjoy hearing her when we are home. My mom loves unconditionally, and I could go on and on about how since becoming a mom in 1968 for the first time, she has taken to that role and continued to live it out so BEAUTIFULLY!!

My mom is filled with extraordinary love and passion for her kids & family. Growing up she was a young mother still in high school and managed to take care of three children, finish school and a career. She never let us go without. I had one parent but never missed out or felt abandoned since she rocked at motherhood. She was and is my best friend. She loves her kids and we were always put first even at her young age. This last December, she sat day and night with my grandfather while he passed. She showed such strength and courage as we watched her knowing she was hurting. She has never been shy of crying but through it all she never falls apart. Even in her darkest moments, she expressed love and light for her family. I know it wasn't easy raising us early in life. But growing up she never showed her struggles. My 20s were a mess, and I made mistakes by the dozen. I always knew no matter how bad I might mess it up, she would push me to do better, still be holding my hand from the sidelines. Her love is unconditional and I have never felt alone in life because I always knew I belonged. I admire her strength and character and strive to be a woman just like her.

My sister-in-law is a rock star. Her son was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after birth. In his two and a half years, she has adjusted to daily treatments, tons of medication and even extended hospital stays. She's an amazing mom and has never lost her spark even through the challenges. I couldn't ask for a better mom for my nephew.

Without a doubt, my friend, H., is a most amazing mother! She balances being the mother of two daughters (ages 12 and 7) and two sons (ages 9 and 2) while also working part time at her husband's private business doing payroll and bookkeeping. She homeschools all her children and is also the president of the Norman Area Homeschool Educators leadership council, organizing and leading the functions of over a hundred other homeschoolers.
She always makes sure to take care of other moms in our homeschooling group by scheduling a fun Mom's Night's Out every month. Holly welcomes other homeschooling moms to share coffee at her house regularly sharing her home and her positive energy.
She is a patient and loving mother! I'm amazed how she teaches her 7-year-old daughter how to unload the dishwasher and her nine-year-old son to cook amazing breakfasts like banana pancakes. She makes sure there is time in every week for a family game night and every season she makes a bucket list of fun, economical things to do with her family such as catching fireflies or doing random acts of kindness. She mothers by modeling true Christian spirit. Last Christmas, all her children worked at their garage sale and sold lemonade and baked goods so that they could purchase Christmas gifts for a foster child in Norman. Holly truly inspires me to be a better mom and deserves the honor of being recognized as an 'Awesome Mom!'

I am nominating M. as an awesome mom. She has taken up the responsibility of money-maker after I (her husband) was laid off and still finds time to love on her kids. She is a two-time business runner and manages to keep all of the plates spinning in the air. She greets both of her kids in the morning with a smile every day no matter what may have happened the night before. She makes sure they put their best foot forward as they go out the door and always look their best. She includes her kids in her business as much as possible and makes a point to let them know how much she loves them. She prays continually for their future and does all she can to help shape their futures in such a way to avoid the pitfalls that she's taken or seen others make. She makes sure that her kids always make memories and enjoy their vacations or experiences instead of rushing from point A to point B. I think that she is very much deserving of the title Awesome Mom for these and oh so many more reasons!

Christina is an incredibly hardworking woman and mom. She has been our housekeeper/cleaner for about two years now. Christina successfully runs her own house cleaning business, supports her entire family on her earnings (four kids!) and still manages to find time to spend taking her children on adventures and making sure they have every opportunity she can afford them. She is way more deserved of this award than any other mom I know.
S.R. nominated by S.S.
S. has been there for her children through health struggles, emotional struggles and everyday struggles. She has empowered her children to be the best they can be no matter what. She teaches high school English where she treats every student as her own. Her daughter said it best when she said, "some kids have a ‘mom’ for a parent. Others have a ‘friend’ for a parent. I got lucky because my mom is both my mom and my friend.

L. stays up all night making special treats for their parties at school. She was president of PTA. She was at every school event. She runs from cheerleading practice/games/football practice. She always puts our kids first. She is selfless and the best mom anyone could ask for. She waited 20 years for our kids. We adopted our babies and she goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect for birthdays, Christmas, you name it. She is amazing.

My mom is awesome. She's a nurse and has been for almost 20 years. She goes to work at 6 a.m. and sometimes may not come home until late in the evening because she's caring for her patients. She is very selfless. She's always caring for others first and I would like to thank her and for once make it about her, pamper her the way she cares for others. She's had a rather rough past year for reasons I can't say but this would be awesome for her.

Jennifer Smith nominated by David Smith (Winner of our Awesome Mom 2019 Contest)
I would like to nominate my amazing wife and mother to our 2 year old & stepmom to my 9 year old. This unique mom is the glue to our family of 4. I have worked away from the home or been deployed for much of the last few years and she has held down the fort. Her strength and resilience is undeniable. She's a Veteran, who has served overseas and 6 years in the AF Reserve. She has continued her service to the military by volunteering as the Key Spouse for the 507th Security Forces Squadron. She has rallied funds and donated items to send Christmas stockings to troops overseas and organizes family events for the squadron. She was even just awarded Military Spouse of the Year for the 507th Air Refueling Wing at Tinker AFB, for the second consecutive year. She also works full-time in human resources and serves the HR community by volunteering as a Board Member for the OKC HR Society. While mothering, volunteering, and working, she also recently completed her Master's Degree. If you ask her what her favorite thing to do in her free time is, she would say that she loves to make memories with her kids. She is always planning a weekend outing so that the kids can enjoy something fun, whether it's a museum, park, or community event. I am always blown away at how wonderful of a wife, mother and person she is, despite her rough childhood and upbringing.
Audrey Longson nominated by Adam Longson (Finalist of our Awesome Mom 2019 Contest)
My wife Audrey Longson is an awesome mom because she's a modern day Wonder Woman! She's a medical doctor - her job is literally to save lives, lots of lives. The work she does ensures that many parents will not have to face the horror of losing a beloved child. In addition to her work as a medical doctor she is politically active and lobbies for medical care reform for all citizens of the great state of Oklahoma. Dr. Audrey Longson's deepest passion, however, is her own two children (ages 2 and 4). She is the most loving mother and dedicates her life to keeping them safe, teaching them (our 4 year old already knows more skeletal anatomy than most adults!), and caring for their needs (brushing their precious little teeth, feeding them healthy foods, and making sure there's plenty of time for fun and exploration). My wife is a steward of the earth and has dedicated her life to recycling and raising environmental awareness. She's a master organic gardener and an avid home chef. She keeps the house clean and tidy and even manages to make me a healthy lunch to take to work every day. Like I said, she's a Wonder Woman. Dr. Audrey Longson is loyal, smart as can be, loving, caring, and an absolutely wonderful mother. All things great and small are in good hands with my wife and she's spent a lot of time teaching our children to care for all of Oklahoma through toy and food donations to people in need to helping any lost dog she encounters to helping dozens upon dozens of little turtles cross the road safely throughout the spring season. She lives her life in a beautiful way and teaches our children to do the same, by example.
Druana Sanders-Forcha nominated by Lisa Blacknoll (Finalist for our Awesome Mom 2019 Contest)
Druana Sanders-Forcha is an extraordinary mom of 4. She has the older generation of all boys (Darian-24,Darrick-22, Denis-18) & the latest addition a daughter Daylnn, who is 2. Druana put herself through college while raising the 3 boys & working full time & graduating as a Electrical Engineer. Since then she's gotten her Master's degree & works for Booz Allen Hamilton. Just today after work she took her 2 year old to swimming lessons & somehow managed to make it to her sons high school basketball game. Near and dear to me she sits on the Filling Tummies board of Directors where she provides food to children in underserved areas and food deserts. She was recently instrumental in a huge food giveaway, giving away more than 10,000 pounds of food for Spring Break. She has a heart of gold, & for this I think she deserves to be recognized. She's an outstanding mom & community member.
