Spotlight on Character Winners
Christopher Kitchell has employed many positive character
traits in his efforts to support the American Lung
Association.
Christopher’s parents got involved with the organization when their son
was diagnosed with asthma in 2005. Even as a Kindergartener,
Christopher wanted to find ways to raise money for the Association,
Misty Kitchell, Christopher’s mother, said.
Employing creativity, determination, and generosity, Christopher
decided to set up a Kool-Aid stand. His church, Cherokee Hills Baptist,
helped Christopher set up the stand last year during spring break. He
was able to raise more than $700 for the Lung Association. This year
Christopher was eager to raise money and awareness again. “His birthday
was the first day of spring and I told him there was no way we could do
both a birthday party and a Kool-Aid stand,” Misty said. “He wanted to
postpone his party.” To date, Christopher has raised $250, but is still
collecting donations toward his goal of $500.
Christopher is a second grade home-schooled student. He is the son
of Misty and Michael Kitchell of Oklahoma City. Learn more about the

Danetta Butler displays the character traits of availability,
generosity, and leadership through volunteering at the Unity Baptist
Fellowship in south Oklahoma City. Three years ago, Danetta began
serving as pianist for her
congregation.
“God gave her the ability to play,” said Danetta’s mom, Delta
Butler. Danetta had only had lessons for a couple of years, but she
displayed great skill. Danetta directs the children’s Christmas program
and leads the children’s music for Vacation Bible School. She is also a
leader in the youth group and often performs special music during
worship services.
Danetta devotes many hours to her church and still maintains good
grades in a schedule filled with honors classes. Danetta is a junior at
Moore High School and is the daughter of David and Delta Moore of
Oklahoma City.
