This has just been a horrible winter for illness. When you have a child who has special health care needs, getting sick can be very scary. For our family, we have to worry about the illness acerbating other health issues, such as auto-immune disease.
Last week, I had two children with the flu. Of course, my children didn’t just have one kind of flu…they had two different types which can be a very complicated situation in a household that struggles with health issues every day. Our wonderful pediatrician gave me a great tip that I wanted to share with you; so, here is it.
When someone in your house gets the flu or another airborne illness:
• Change your air filters
• Put your air conditioner or heater on “ON” instead of “AUTO”
• Change the air filters again in 10-14 days
Apparently, this will help to clear the air in your home and could keep your family from passing the virus along.
Anyway, we ran out and got new filters. Fortunately, we had a few warm days to open the windows and air out our home during the illness. You know….my husband and other child did not get ill. Now, that’s a miracle; so, I wanted to pass this really good health tip along to our MetroFamily readers.
Have a great healthy week!
