Alfredo's Mexican Cafe, Yukon

Let’s Eat: Alfredo’s Mexican Café Restaurant Reivew
Don’t be confused by the name—Alfredo’s is a Mexican café, not an Italian café. The aroma of chips, salsa, and fajitas along with the south-of-the-border decor, will set you straight.

My family and I headed to Yukon to give Alfredo’s a taste test because we’re always eager to try new Mexican restaurants. My daughter Mandy had eaten at Alfredo’s in Weatherford and was looking forward to enjoying their flour tortillas. Chips, salsa, queso, and tortillas make us happy munchers.

The clientele who came and went proved that the people of Yukon are happy to have Alfredo’s in their neighborhood. Like many Mexican restaurants in the Metro, once seated, you’re presented with chips, salsa, and queso. Alfredo’s salsa—fresh tomato, onion, and cilantro—is not too hot for the faint of heart. Joe enjoyed several bowls of it and declared it excellent. At your request, they will provide soft flour tortillas, a relish of onions and carrots, and a hotter salsa. I enjoyed the hotter salsa’s tasty roasted flavor and mixed it with the regular for an added kick.

Their queso was good, not watered down with chicken stock as some Mexican restaurants’ are. Alfredo’s offers several items, like quesadillas, fajitas, and tacos made with pork and shrimp. Mandy ordered a chimichanga from the ala carte menu ($5.95). It was a large chimi with huge pieces of chicken breast, cooked to a nice golden color.

After reviewing the menu, Joe discovered a house specialty—fajita enchiladas (single serving $8.95; double serving $9.95). His fajita enchilada consisted of chunks of marinated fajita steak sautéed with pico de gallo, rolled in a flour tortilla, and covered with chili meat and cheese. This plate is served with fried rice and beans. Though Joe ordered only one enchilada, it was an ample serving.

I wanted to experience a variety of tastes so I ordered a Numero Cuatro combination plate ($8.95). It had three large nachos with lots of colby-Jack cheese, one cheese enchilada ordered with queso instead of the chili meat, a crispy ground beef taco, guacamole (which never arrived), and fried rice. This is a nicely presented plate of food, but be prepared to take some home.

We ended our meal with a complimentary sopapilla. They were light and puffy but I felt they could have used a lot more cinnamon-sugar. Still, don’t pass them up.

My daughter 13, her friend 12, my wife and I went to Alfredo's for a nice meal. The food was good. The wait staff was friendly, but there was one problem. We are not big eaters. The girls shared some fajita nachos. My wife picked a guacamole salad I had the enchilada dinner. We all ate a little of the chips and salsa and shared one container of tortillas. The problem was they said we had to pay $4.95 extra because the girls shared a meal. So we had a choice buy another meal and throw it away or pay for $4.95 for nothing. I could understand if four adults ate plenty of chips salsa and tortillas, They need to make their money. In this situation I felt they stole $4.95 from me.. Not a lot of money but not the feeling you want to leave the restuarant with. After the tip the meal cost $46.00. We won't go back. I'll warn my friends.
