Sesame Street Live

My daughter was delighted to see her favorite Sesame Street characters in person. She spent the entire time completely enthralled with the show. She even got up to dance and sing. He won’t admit it, but my son had a pretty good time, too.

Have "Real Life" Fun at the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum

For the last few years, my family has taken a trip during Spring Break to the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum in Seminole. It's about an hour from Norman, an easy drive down Highway 9. It's an interactive, hands-on museum designed to engage children of all ages. What is there to do at the Jasmine Moran? I'll share my family's personal highlights to give you an idea.

Enjoy FREE Admission to the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory

I don’t know about you, but after this week’s frigid, icy weather, my kids and I could sure use a tropical escape. Lucky for us, there is such a place right in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City.

Free Crafts for Kids at Lakeshore Learning

My daughter loves to do crafts, but I confess that I am not one of those crafty moms that can create fantastic Pinterest worthy projects. I have wanted to check out the Free Crafts for Kids at Lakeshore Learning (6300 N May Ave, OKC) for sometime now, and last weekend, I finally got the opportunity.

Two Ways to Enjoy the OKC Philharmonic

Brooke and I had the wonderful opportunity to treat our families to two different kinds of concerts offered by the OKC Philharmonic this past fall. The Riesters enjoyed the Discovery Concert Series Phil’s Monster Mash, and the Barnetts got their groove on at the POPS Series Disco Days and Boogie Nights. This week we are joining our Weekend Warrior forces to introduce you to two different offerings by this very talented group of musicians.

3 Reasons to Visit the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks

Finding fun activities when it's cold outside can be challenging. My family has three or four favorite places in Norman that we go to play when it's too cold to be outside....but sometimes, a change to scenery can be nice when the kids start saying "Really? We're going there AGAIN???" I love taking my kids to explore new places and we recently took a field trip up the Turner Turnpike to the Oklahoma Aquarium (300 Aquarium Dr) in Jenks.

Metro Family Weeked Picks Newsletter

About This Blog

Brooke Barnett is MetroFamily's Assistant Editor, Online Content Editor and social media managerBrooke Barnett—and is constantly amazed by the sheer volume of ways for families to have fun in the Oklahoma City metro! A native Oklahoman, she is a work-at-home mom to two awesome kids—daughter Murphy is 6 and son Graham is 3.  Alongside husband Jason, Brooke and family are often seen at family events around the metro—enjoying everything from live music to museums to fun playgrounds and more.

Sara Riester is MetroFamily's Calendar Editor. Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, she moved to Oklahoma five years ago and loves working on the calendar for MetroFamily because it has introduced her to so many activities and venues she would not otherwise have known about. Sara is a work-at-home mom who lives with her husband John and her two precocious children--son Joshua is 5 and daughter Joy is 2. As a very musical family, concerts are a favorite choice for family outings, but the Riesters can be found all over the metro enjoying a wide variety of what OKC has to offer (often accompanied by the Barnetts).
