Looking for a Date Night Idea?

Looking for a Date Night Idea?

If you and your significant other are anything like my husband and me, you are probably in a date night rut. “What do you want to do?” “I don’t know. What do you want to do?” Finally, we end up at dinner and maybe a dollar theater movie. We can never seem to find anything more exciting to do….or we do find something more exciting, but it is not on the same night as we can find childcare for our kids….or it is just too much work to plan something out of the ordinary when really, we both just want to relax in peace and quiet for a couple of child-free hours.

Considering our track record, I was pleasantly surprised when my hubby informed me that he had splurged on a fancy night out for our 9th anniversary that did not involve movies or the Olive Garden (Not that there is anything wrong with the Olive Garden. Their tiramisu is to die for.) First we started with a meal at the Melting Pot complete with roses and a souvenir photo in their Lovers Lane seating area that provides cozy, secluded tables for two. Melty, ooey, gooey cheese and chocolate…..How can you go wrong? Did I mention you get to dip rice krispy treats, strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, pound cake and cheesecake in that melty chocolate? After dinner, it was off to our next stop—an Oklahoma River Cruise!

Oklahoma River Cruises offer Sunset Cruises on Friday nights and Specialty Cruises on Saturday nights for the 21 & older crowd complete with appetizers, beverages and a cash bar. The themes of the Specialty Cruises vary by month. My husband and I got to enjoy a Luau cruise with themed cocktails and complimentary leis as we boarded the boat. Unfortunately, I am unable to comment on the quality of the appetizers because, as delicious as they looked, we were far too stuffed full of fondue to even consider taking another bite. (Think Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life). It was a beautiful evening—perfect for standing on the deck and feeling the evening breeze while enjoying the sunset over the skyline in the company of someone you love.

What to Do:

  • Eat at the Melting Pot (4 E Sheridan, OKC). Enjoy a delicious fondue dinner. A variety of packages are available that offer roses, framed photos, chocolate covered strawberries, wine and more. Reservations required for some packages, strongly recommended for dinner. 235-1000, www.meltingpot.com/oklahoma-city.
  • Enjoy an Oklahoma River Sunset Cruise departing from Regatta Park Landing (701 S Lincoln, OKC). Sunset Cruises available on Friday evenings April through October from 7:30-9pm and include music, appetizers & soda as well as a cash bar. Reservations required. $29 per person. 702-7755, www.okrivercruises.com.
  • Enjoy an Oklahoma River Adult Haunt the River Cruise departing from Regatta Park Landing (701 S Lincoln, OKC). Haunt the River Cruises feature dancing, appetizers and a costume contest as well as a cash bar. For ages 21 & older. 7-8:30pm. Reservations required. $35 per person. 702-7755, www.okrivercruises.com.

How to Save:

  • If you or your loved one is a teacher or administrator, you may be eligible for half-priced “Big Night Out” fondue dinners for two. “Teachers ½ to Eat Too” runs Thursday-Sunday during the month of September. Teachers must show their school ID and special pricing excludes tax and gratuity. Call for complete details.

Wishing you and your loved one a romantic evening!
Sara
