Kids Fest 2018: Find the best services and have fun with your kids!

MetroFamily turns 20 this year! Come celebrate our 20th birthday with us at Kids Fest on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10 at the Cox Convention Center.

If you've seen a copy of our January edition, you already know what I'm talking about: the big 20 on our cover stands out. 2018 marks our second decade and we're celebrating all year long.

Local families are at the heart of all that we do. Information, resources, events: we want to bring the best of it to families like yours. We know it matters because every single staffer at MetroFamily is a parent. We're all moms who have been through or are currently navigating the different ages and stages, social situations and changes families live through day in and day out.

Our editor recently asked staffers what we've learned since coming to work at MetroFamily and I wasn't the only person who mentioned how diverse families can be. Beyond country of origin, there are just so many kinds of families, including single parents, foster and adoptive parents and grandparents raising grandchildren.

We hear our readers when they ask for resources and share what they want to read about. Local voices guide everything we bring up for your consideration so you can make the best choices because that's common denominator: we all want good things for our children.

Kids Fest celebrates every kind of family by bringing together the best of local parenting into one room.

Kids Fest admission is $7 for adults and free for kids. You can get a $1-off adult admission coupon here, which also registers you for door prizes. We have three grand prizes this year: an iPad from Metropolitan Library System of Oklahoma City/County, a membership pass from Chester's Party Barn and a season pass to Andy Alligator's.

Here's just some of what you'll find for families:

  • School alternatives: Charter and online schools can be ideal for some families. Come find out more about your options!
  • Stage performances: Spark your child's interest in dance or music by seeing some local performers like Spaghetti Eddie and the OU Trombone Choir. Watching other kids is often inspiring and there will be kids on stage from Pulse Dance Studio as well as Clips 'n Hips.
  • Costumed characters: Forever After Parties will have costumed characters on-site for photos. I love Forever After because their princesses are in-character and genuinely interested in taking pictures with kids.
  • Local services info: Want to know what's around for children in the metro? You can see a full booth list here and we'll be adding more up until the show date.

There are inflatables for kids from Andy Alligator's, Raechel Brown with Kaleidoscope Arts will be present to do facepainting and we'll have a caricature artist as well as a petting zoo from Chester's Party Barn. Extreme Animals will be present with a variety of exotic creatures kids love to see, like lemurs and lizards.

There's also a diaper change area provided by Infant Crisis Services and we'll host a lactation area too.

Come by MetroFamily's booth and introduce yourself! We always love to meet our readers and we just might know your name from our Facebook page or a reader-submitted question.

If you have questions about Kids Fest, email us. Event updates are also posted here on the related Facebook events page.

We hope to see you on Feb. 10!
