2012 OKC Fall Break Camps List

The change in weather means that fall is coming—and so are fall break camps! Whether you are seeking enrichment, new skills or just some great fall fun, the following venues in the OKC metro area are offering opportunities for your child during the upcoming break.  Please note that many have advanced registration dates and spots often fill fast—so use this list to create the best fall break ever for your kids!

October 10 • 12

  • Norman Parks & Recreation Fall Break Camp at the Irving Recreation Center and the 12th Avenue Recreation Center for kids ages 5-11 features sports, games, arts & crafts, movies and more.   • Did You Ever? Fall Break Camp at Science Museum Oklahoma for students in grades 1-6 features fun science activities such as a nature scavenger hunt, solar photographs, homemade paper and prints, the science of sound engineering and composing and more.   • G.O.T.C.H.A (Great Outdoor Teaching Classroom Holiday Adventure) at Camp DaKaNi (3309 E Hefner, OKC) features indoor and outdoor activities including a rock wall, fishing, zip line, outdoor cooking and physics experiments.   • Thunder Youth Basketball Fall Break Mini-Camp at the Thunder Events Center (14701 N Lincoln, Edmond) for ages 5-16 features Thunder coaches/players (when available) and emphasizes basketball skills & character lessons. October 11 • Thursday

  • Engineers to the Rescue – Fall Break Workshop presented by Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma at the Mary Nichols’ Leadership Center (6100 N Robinson, OKC) teaches girls about engineering as they are presented with a scenario about an earthquake in Yellowstone National Park. Bring a sack lunch. For Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors. Preregister by October 8. $20 per girl. 8am-5pm. www.gswestok.org.
  • Duct Tape Crafts at the MAC Edmond Parks & Recreation Center (2733 Marilyn Williams, Edmond) instructs youth and teens how to make a wallet, jewelry, bag, purse and more out of duct tape. October 12 • Friday

  • Design Time – Fall Break Workshop presented by Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma at the Mary Nichols’ Family Leadership Center (6100 N Robinson, OKC) teachers girls about designing and engineering by making a bag for a “customer” that includes a catapult that flings marshmallows, the perfect bubble solution and prototypes of their own toy.   • Abstract Painting at the MAC Edmond Parks & Recreation Center (2733 Marilyn Williams, Edmond) teaches youth and teens how to work with acrylics and use various techniques to create original abstract art on canvas.   • City Arts Center Fall Break Camp at the City Arts Center (3000 General Pershing) for ages 5-13 offers sessions taught by Oklahoma artists featuring a variety of educational opportunities including mixed media painting, photography, ceramics, stop motion animation, visual & performance art, the creative use of color and creation of holiday-inspired folk art.   • Fall Break Storytelling Camp presented by the Oklahoma Children’s Theatre (2501 N Blackwelder) for ages 5-7 and 8-12 explores storytelling through digital media in the Intergenerational Computer Lab with the University English Department as well as the oral tradition.
