Overfull

These past two years have been the most introspective years of my life. Struggling with the grieving process, much of my time was spent stalled in the anger phase. It’s not pleasant, and it’s not a fun place to live, but it’s necessary. Or at least it was for me.

Of Saltines and Silver Linings

Some of my fondest memories of childhood were when I was sick. It’s when I felt most mothered. I told my sister about this a while back, and she understood—when else did a kid from a big family (I’m the last of 7 kids) get individual attention?

Helicopter Mom and Airplane Boy

Recently, my son had the opportunity to fly an airplane. An actual airplane, up in the actual sky, an actual several thousand feet above my head. And now they are getting older, their questions are getting more complicated and therefore, my answers are also getting a bit more involved, too.

One Reason

We’ve been talking a lot about summer activities around my house—due in no small part to (a) my kids hotly anticipating the end of the school year and (b) my working on the summer activities issue for the past few weeks. What do we want to do this summer? What plans do we want to make?

Listen To Your Mother

Listen To Your Mother

I stepped out of my comfort zone. Waaay out of my comfort zone. And I shared a big piece of myself. That might not seem like a bit deal; after all, I blog here (and many other places) and I have for years; I’ve shared lots! But this is different. This time, I shared in person.

I’m Not an Iron Chef, but I Play One in My Kitchen

And as life has changed, my competitive nature has changed. Not gone away, mind you—but changed. Now, I compete at dinner. My family is none the wiser, but they are the adversaries I’m trying to best every day I bring myself to the kitchen to whip something up.

Recharge!

Going away recharged my batteries and reminded me of what I'm thankful for. Free coffee, comfy pants and my family.
