Wax Paper Sun Catcher

Apr 10, 2012 - 11:43 PM
Wax Paper Sun Catcher

Add some color to catch the spring time sunshine with these pretty wax paper sun catchers!

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Construction paper
  • Glue
  • Crayons
  • Wax paper
  • Cookie sheet
  • Iron & ironing board
  • Manual pencil sharpener

Instructions:

  • Take the wax paper and cut two pieces slightly smaller than a regular 8.5"x11" sheet of paper.
  • Put one sheet of wax paper on a cookie sheet or newspaper.
  • Pick out the colors you would like to use and sharpen the crayons over the sheet. (You could also already have crayon shaving ready so that the child doesn't have to use the sharpener. They can just sprinkle them over the paper)
  • Spread the shavings acrosswax paper.  A light covering will do.
  • Place the second sheet of wax paper on top of the wax shavings.
  • ADULTs ONLY STEP: With the iron on the lowest setting, cover the wax paper with a towel or light cloth and lighty iron until the wax melts. Make sure to iron the sheets completely together, all the way to the edges.
  • Once cool, use construction paper to add a border.
  • Make a hole in the top and hang it in the window.

In the picture, I cut out a butterfly design with construction paper. I folded the paper in half and cut out a wing of a butterfly and then cut out the center and unfolded it, than I glued the wax paper design to the butterfly.
