Salt Art

Looking for a good rainy day craft? Try making your own sand art using just sand and chalk!

Materials:

  • Salt
  • Chalk
  • Cookie sheet
  • Funnel
  • Vase or other container.

Instructions:

  • Pour salt on the cookie sheet.
  • Rub the salt with a piece of chalk until all the salt is colored.
  • Make different colors and shades of sand
  • Using a funnel, layer the salt into the container.

Experiment with layers of different depth, layer the colors in the order of the color spectrum, or make a pattern with your sand.  Use different shades of the same color for a monochromatic effect. What happens if you make the layer deeper on one side than the other?  What happens if you shake the container?  Add in decorative items such as marbles or glass beads for a truly eye-catching decoration!
