Back-to-School Community Celebrations


Say so long to summer break at one of these community celebrations happening in the Oklahoma City metro!

Aug. 2

FREE Back-to-School Block Party at Passion Church (3301 N Council Rd, Bethany) features food, games, fun and more. 6 – 8 p.m.

Aug. 4

FREE Edmond Library Movie Night at the Park at Shannon Miller Park (S Jackson & E 1st St, Edmond) features an outdoor screening of The Lorax in celebration of the end of the Summer Reading Program. Kona Ice will be on site for the purchase of snow cones and some waters will be provided. Attendees are welcome to bring snack, drinks, blankets, chairs and bug spray. 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Aug. 5

FREE Back-to-School Slip-Slide Family Celebration at Family of Faith Church (13500 SE 15th St, Choctaw) features family activities including a huge slip and slide, inflatables, hot dogs and more. 9 a.m. – noon.

FREE Back to School Outreach at Victory Family Outreach (4343 N Flood Ave, Norman) features free haircuts for kids, backpacks filled with school supplies, physicals, dental and vision screenings, immunizations, food, face painting, rides, inflatables, and a petting zoo. Giveaways and services are limited to first come, first serve. 10:30 a.m.

First Saturday Hands-on History at the Oklahoma History Center (800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr) features back-to-school themed crafts, coloring, hands-on carts and educational trunks. Free with admission. 1 – 4 p.m.

Aug. 6

FREE Back-to-School Bash at Capitol Hill Baptist Church (304 SW 134th St) features FREE school supplies, inflatables, games, free food, drinks and door prizes. School supplies will be given to kids present at the bash in grades pre-k through grade 12, while supplies last. 4 – 6 p.m.

Aug. 12

FREE Back-to-School Bash at Southern Oaks Library (6900 S Walker Ave) features games and activities both inside and outside in collaboration with OKC County Health Department. All ages welcome. 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

FREE Back-to-School Bash in Bricktown (various locations) features bouncy houses, live music, food, face painting, super heroes, outdoor games including Corn Hole, Giant Chess, Giant Checkers, Tick-Tac-Toe, water games, rubber duck race and more. Donations accepted. Noon – 4:30 p.m.

Back-to-School Ice Cream Social at My Chic Geek (4413 N Meridian Ave) features ice cream and costumed characters. Benefits Positive Tomorrows. $5. 2 – 4 p.m.

Aug. 13

FREE Wild World Back-to-School Carnival at People’s Church (various locations) features inflatables, pony rides, extreme animals, snow cones and food trucks. See website for times and locations.

Aug. 19

Dandy Lion Daze Car Show at Moore High School (300 N Eastern Ave, Moore) features a car show benefiting scholarships and other benevolent services for Moore High School students. Free to attend. 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. 

FREE Winners Church Annual Back to School Picnic at Mitch Park (1501 W Covell Rd, Edmond) features free food, music, inflatables, ball games, face painting and more. 5 - 7 p.m.

Aug. 20

FREE Safari Sunday Funday at Safari Dental (2809 Shadybrook Dr, Midwest City) features face painting, popcorn, bike rides, kids' crafts, drinks, slushies, school supplies and raffles, all for free. 3 - 6 p.m.

Sept. 2

Slide Outta Summer at Mitch Park (1501 W Covell Rd, Edmond) features inflatable water slides, music by DJ Shorty B and food trucks. All ages welcome. $5/slider. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
