Class Pet, by Jennifer

Class Pet, by Jennifer

Recently we took a big step and bought our first classroom pet. Since we’re homeschoolers, I guess any pet is technically a classroom pet, but since this one is confined to a terrarium, he stays in our school room all the time (unlike the cat, who mostly just comes in to stalk birds out the window). We’re now the proud owners of Leo, a juvenile leopard gecko! Since we’ve only had cats before, this is a step out of our comfort zone, but I think it’s going to be a good experience for the whole family.

Just Ask, by Jennifer

Think about places off the beaten path that might be fun and educational. You might be surprised about what’s out there if you just take a few minutes to ask!

Weather, by Jennifer

If you’ve lived in Oklahoma for more than a week, you know weather is a big deal here. It’s a little crazy all the time, it seems, but especially in the spring, which makes this a great time of year to study the weather!

St. Patrick's Day Fun, by Jennifer

St. Patrick’s Day is coming soon! This year it falls on a Sunday, something I always loved when I was a classroom teacher, because who really wants to spend the day trying to keep 25 ten year olds from pinching each other? So while you may not be doing actual school work on St. Patrick’s Day, there are still fun ways to work it into your learning experience!

Why Can’t We All Get Along?, by Kami

Tolerance, acceptance, being open-minded, listening, respecting each other’s opinions and differences of opinions, willingness to hear someone else’s side of the story, not be judgmental, not jumping to conclusions; all of these ideas seem like fairly easy concepts, right?

Wait, what do you mean we don’t get snow days?, by Kami

Wait, what do you mean we don’t get snow days?, by Kami

Oklahoma has the coolest weather patterns! NOT! Warm one week, freezing cold with snow the next! It is enough to drive even the most weather interested person crazy! When it comes to home schooling, weather can be a blessing, and well a curse. Not literally a curse, but when your kids are like mine and they went to public school long enough to know what “real snow days” are; it can be a recipe for disaster!

About This Blog

MetroFamily is pleased to introduce you to our two homeschooling bloggers, Kami and Jennifer! Lean more about both of them here:

Kami McManus is a work at home mom to 10 yr old Connor and 4 yr old Haleigh and Air Force wife of 11 years to Tim! The McManus family moved to Oklahoma City a little over 2 years ago. Kami is an Air Force brat herself and now so are her children!

As a licensed in-home childcare provider, the education of her "charges" and her own children has always been a priority, but now she and her husband are making their children's education a MISSION!

Share in the McManus family's adventures as they strap on their educational combat boots and charge the front lines to invade the world of homeschooling!

Jennifer Geary is a wife of one and mom of two who is back home in Broken Arrow after Air Force-sponsored detours to Omaha and Oklahoma City.  An elementary education graduate from the University of Oklahoma, she decided to leave her “regular” teaching career behind to homeschool her son and daughter.

When she’s not educating, feeding, or cleaning up after someone, Jennifer likes to read and scrapbook.  You can read about all of her adventures at Little Things.
