Thanking Dads

by Jennifer Geary

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Most of you reading this are probably homeschool moms, but since it's Father's Day weekend, I want to take a minute to focus on the dads.  Every homeschooling family has a different dynamic; in some families mom does all the teaching, in some, dad shares the duties. In the majority of families, though, homeschooling couldn't happen without dad, no matter what role he takes in the day to day teaching.

For most of us, it's the dad that goes out and works the long hours to support the family so that mom can stay home with the kids. While we may be the ones with the big plans, he's the one working to finance them. It's not easy to be at home with the kids all the time, but it's also not easy to be the one to go out into the world every day to take care of everyone else, so thank you, dads, for all that you do!

On a personal note, I want to take a minute to thank my husband for all that he does for us. He didn't think I was (completely) crazy when I brought up the idea of homeschooling almost eight years ago, even though it was something we'd never even considered. He is so supportive of homeschooling and is always telling other people about it–in fact, it's not uncommon for me to meet people who already know a lot about us because he's pulled up my blog to show them what we do!  As our son has gotten older, my husband has actually taken on teaching duties in some subjects, even after he's put in a long day at the office. Because we're not tied to the school calendar we travel a lot around the state and he doesn't bat an eye when I tell him we're headed somewhere for a field trip. I appreciate him so much for being so supportive and so helpful!

Happy Father's Day, dads!  Enjoy your special day!
